Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
Do you get the Stormer 3-in-1 or the Squall Parker? Which is a better choice?

I like the squall. I like that it's thin but very warm due to the insulated liner. She gets more than one season out of it because the sleeves extend and I just buy it slightly bigger for the first season

Re: Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
Thanks!!! I'm so torn on what size, do they generally run big? She had a GAP coat (they run big) that lasted her THREE YEARS!! lol I'd like to get at least 2 seasons out of this one.

Re: Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
They run kind of big, yes.
So last year, DD was solidly wearing between a 4 and a 5 in girls clothing. I got her the 6 (which is a Medium in little girls I think) and it was pretty much swimming on her. But not so much that it looked stupid- just looked roomy and it's a winter coat so you want roomy.
This year it will DEFINITELY still fit her- maybe even be a bit big still- but again, she is still wearing mostly size 5's with 6's being too big on her still. (she's a tiny thing)
I am thinking I might even be able to squeeze a THIRD year out of it next year- if she doesn't have a huge growth spurt.

Re: Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
Get the squall - they run big, and have the 'grow a long' sleeves (you get an extra inch or so out of the sleeve by removing stitching)
My older son needed new each year b/c I never really bought it big for him - this year I got it a little big, so he should get 2 years out of it. My younger one has been wearing his brother's hand me downs since the first I have (2 yrs)
They are fabulous, warm, waterproof and wash REALLY well

Is it thin enough to wear in a car seat?

absolutely - I've been doing it since age 2 (they're now 7 and 5)

I have had her wear it in the car seat, yes. I mean, it's still adding another layer between them and the straps so a purist might say that any coat is a no no. But I am able to get the straps tight enough to where I feel comfortable

Re: Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
My kids have been wearing the squall for years. They go to a catholic school where their winter coats have to be all black or all navy and the squall is perfect, plus the boy's and girl's coats are identical so my daughter passes hers down to my son. She probably could have gotten another year out of last year's, but he outgrew his and I buy the next size up every summer when they go on sale so I moved her up a size. There's plenty of room in it. Next year I may have to buy another of the same size because he's outpacing her growth.

I definitely think the Lands End jackets run small....short actually. They rarely cover the butt, so I've always sized up for both of my kids, and they are average height.
I also don't think they are thin enough for the carseat. I think fleece is about as bulky as I would get in a five point harness carseat. Seatbelt different story because those retract.

The parka is longer than the jacket

I agree with this. I think it is too bulky for a car seat. I prefer to have DS in a hoody or light weight cardigan/jacket.

Re: Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
I know a lot of people here like the squall, but I hated it. It was so stiff, dd could barely sit down. And way way too stiff and bulky to even get her arms in the car seat straps, let alone strap her in tightly.

Re: Lands End Winter Coats - Kids
Any opinions if these coats are the same, better or equivalent to Northface? I was looking for Northface this year but based on your reviews here might go for the Squall. Never looked into this brand.
