Any tips on going to the Macy's balloon blow-up the night before? Any locations or times that are better than others?

The earlier the better, although I don't know what time they actually start blowing up balloons. It's going to be crazy no matter what street you're on. DH and I used to go when we were first married (before DS). We'd go around 4-5 and it was crowded then.

Take the train. We drove in and every parking garage was full. It was insane.

It is awful....I have live in NYC my entire life and we always went and watched the balloons being blown up (even through my college years). It was informal and neighborly.

Now, it is a BIG production. You have to follow this route now and there is no exiting or entering besides designated areas. It is too crowded now.

UGH! I hate how they have marketed it.

Macy's parade (night before)

I live nearby and never stayed in town to see them blown up until last year. My DH and I walked up and gave up while in line to go through security--it was insane. There is no option to just go down one street, you are herded like cattle through security to see the balloons. I wish it were easier but I just wouldn't do it again.

We went last year and I have to say it was absolutely insane. Definitely a "one and done" type of thing for me and we will never do it again.

You have to follow a path to get to the balloons being inflated. There is a lot of waiting in line as you serpentine around to eventually get there. It was nuts. I had no idea it was going to be so crazy.

I agree!

I live in the city and went the last 2 yrs. 2014 wasn't too bad. I think the drizzle held some people back from coming in.
But last year it was insane. I couldn't even get to the balloons. The crowds were just too big. I gave up and went home.

I won't do it again.

But I did make it to the parade last year and really enjoyed it. I found a great corner spot on 81st and it was perfect.
Won't go again since I had such a good experience. Don't want to push my luckChat Icon
