Ditching the paci
With my DS we had first weaned him down to only using it to sleep (naps too). So the rule was he could only have it if he was lying down in his crib. After that when we decided it was time to take it away, I cut off the tip of it and told him it was broken. I never thought in a million years it would work but it did. He slept holding the "broken" paci and we did the same thing for the one he brought to daycare. After a few days, I told him it was time to throw them away bc they were broken. I had him throw them out and that was it. GL!

Ditching the paci
We went cold turkey with Hailey. She left it at my moms house so she had no choice. She whined and cried for a while but she fell asleep so i decided to stop it right there...
ETA: She was 2.5 when we did this

Ditching the paci
Dd1 we did cold turnkey and that was a mistake at 1 yrs old. She was a mess and horrible after that lol. Dd2 was 3. We weaned by it only be when she's in her crib. Then at 2 1/2/3 yes old I went to wash it and noticed it was broken. Of course we had more but I showed her and said no more. Bye bye. She did really well. She cried for a few mins. Then asked for a few days but it was really easy for her to understand it was broken.

Re: Ditching the paci
Cold turkey at 2 and it was fabulous. But he had started to bite through them so we kinda knew he was ready.
We went away for a few days and when we came back we told him "uh oh we left your paci's in Toronto!"
The first night at bedtime he cried for it on and off for about 20 min. We sat with him and soothed him. 2nd night, 7 min. 3rd night he asked once for it.
He's been fine ever since (3.5 now).

Ditching the paci
MY DS was addicted to the paci. We had to wean him off slowly, took about 2 weeks and 2.5 years. He really loved it for nap time and bed time.

Re: Ditching the paci
Cold turkey during the day at 1 and for sleeping at 2. Takes a week of misery at both times but it passes!

Re: Ditching the paci
We cut holes in the bottom and let them find them. When they showed us they had a hole I told them they were broken because they were too big. No real whining or crying.

Ditching the paci
DD (13 months) is off it except for night time. And when she stole some other kid's out of their cubby and used it enough that the teacher thought it was her's.
ETA: we took it away and that was that. I plan to pull it at nighttime in the next few weeks.

Ditching the paci
Weaned off of it at 2 that we left it home during the day & only used it at night or for late naps. 2 & 1/2 we gave her something else to go to sleep with after preparing her for a few days. Easy transition when they can better understand
