Re: My babies... updated

Congrats! I know a NICU stay is hard, but they sound like they're doing great.

My l&d nurse visited me that first night and she wheeled me down to the NICU in a wheelchair. I hope somebody brought you down to see your angels today!

Great update today! Yes I'm sure it is hard to have one come home and one stay in the hospital! But he will be home soon enough! Hang in there!

Such great news! From my own experience, I think the hardest part will be when you and one of the babies are home and the other is not. They will be the longest, most draining days bc no matter where you are you will feel like you need to be somewhere else. It's so draining, stressful, and hectic. While I was in the hospital with dd2, even with dd1 at home, I was fairly relaxed and just chugged away at pumping, nursing, feeding myself and showing like I was a machine. Once home without her I felt much more frantic. They were the longest 3 days ever but once she was home things were wonderful. I hope you have a very short wait for your little guy to be home with the rest of the family.

Great update!

I understand what it's like to leave the hospital without your baby, and it is one of the hardest things I've ever done. I'm sorry you are having this experience but the NICU is the best place for him if that's what they recommend. You should be able to visit him every day and it sounds like he'll be home really soon.

It was a bittersweet moment but we made Anthony's day special when he came home. My parents live 2 miles so they have put in for extended vacations to watch one baby while we visit the other for 2 feedings a day. Right now we are going back tonight for the 11:30 feeding for Andrew and my parents will have Anthony for an hour. Luckily we live a few minutes from st Charles. Hopefully he's home in a few days my little guy!

Aww, I can really understand what you are feeling. But in the end, he needs to be there and you also need to be with your other DC. You are doing the best you can and it will all be ok I am sure. My child was in the NICU for a while and I am sure it never interfered with our bonding in anyway, if you were worried about that.

Definitely worried about the bonding, him not feeling loved or him missing us. Last 2 times I've gone I get there and he's screaming as soon as I hold him he stops. It's so heart breaking especially because when I was in the hospital and with him he was NEVER crying

It really sucks in the moment but the bonding will come. I worried about the same thing with dd, she spent so much time alone in the nicu, the times she was crying and I couldn't pick her up, the first few days when she was hungry and we couldn't feed her anything, switching back and forth between nursing and bottle feeding. Fast forward a very short time and all that seemed so far in the past. She is beyond a mama's girl, nursed until she was almost two, and refused a bottle after the first month. In the long run, nothing suffered bc of those early days. Hopefully it's just a few more days until it's all in your past too.
