Shaving Tonsils - Anyone have any experiences to share?
My 3 year old DD is having 90% of her tonsils shaved and 20% of her adenoids (her adenoids aren't bad) shaved at the end of this week. We're seeing Dr. Mendelsohn. I can't find much info about it regarding people's experiences for shaving. He wasn't for removing due to her age, and besides her tonsils being very large, she's not having any drastic issues from it. But she breathes out of her mouth and she drools and snores. It just seems like she's not able to breathe as well. They're VERY large. She's gotten strep a couple times too but nothing excessive. Any experiences? I need some reassurance.

No personal experience because DS2 had his tonsils and adenoids removed at 2.5, but I've heard from others that the recovery is much easier with shaving. DS's recovery was definitely tough, but it made such a huge difference. Good luck!

Did they explain why they want to shave instead of removing. Dd was 2 weeks shy of her 3rd bday when age had them removed and the change in breathing, sickness and hearing had been amazing.

He said he doesn't like to remove at her age, and the risks are lower. I think in more extreme cases like if a kid is getting strep A LOT, then he would remove. But her problems from them aren't that major, but her mouth breathing, her drooling and her tendency to sound garbled bothered me. I didn't want her to have speech issues because of it though she didn't qualify for speech. When he first saw her and he considered her a 3, he didn't think it should be removed and it wasn't enough problems to remove. The next time she had strep, they were huge and when he saw her the next visit when she was better a month later, they were still huge. The reason her symptoms aren't so bad is because her adenoids are normal.

I had mine done this way. I was 22! Mine were enlarged and I had strep 10 times in a year so they did it. Was very easy recovery. I think I had them out on Thursday and went to work Monday.

Yes. My son had this surgery done by Dr. Mendelsohn. I can fm you later with more info if you want but the changes I saw in my son after were amazing. It was the best thing for him and I can't' say enough good things about Dr. Mendelsohn.

Yes that would be great, thank you! I'd love all that info plus what to expect with recovery.

No experience with that surgery, specifically, but Dr. Mendelsohn put tubes in DD's ears a few weeks ago. He's great, so trust him! I didn't think her ear problems were manifesting itself at all, but after the surgery, I can see a big difference. Hang in there, mama!

My niece had it done. Next day, with a little tylenol, she was fine. outside playing at a family BBQ.
