Nursing PJs and Bra to Hospital

What is everyone bringing to the hospital in terms of pajamas and bras? Are you bringing pjs that open in the front for nursing? And what about bras? Are you buying nursing bras or just regular ones?

I'm debating because all my pjs are the t-shirt kind. I have a few old ones that I wouldn't mind tossing. I'd hate to spend money for brand new pjs just to have them get all bloody/messy. Not to mention, from what I understand the milk won't even come in right away so I'll most likely be bottle feeding the baby at times.

I did a ton of bf-big at the hospital but I just used old elastic sports bras that I could pull up or down easily & regular t shirt pajamas that I'd just lift up. Nothing fancy, everything gets disgusting imo so no need to get new stuff or bring anything too nice. This time I did pack an open front button down pajama top in addition to the long sleeve shirts in case I get cold.

FWIW, nothing I wore in the hospital got messy or gross or needed to be tossed. I had a c-section with my first and a VBAC with my second. Everything is still in great condition and I've passed all that clothing over to my sister now, who is pregnant.

I used a sports bra-style nursing bra, and a zipup hoodie. I found it alowed most of my torso to be exposed for skin to skin while still being covered up enough for visitors.
LOn the bottom I just wore a very old pair of black yoga pants.

I mostly did nursing tanks with a short robe or hoodie over it. Macys had some great stuff in the maternity section when my sister was looking. I wore pj pants or yoga pants.

I do like the idea of a nursing bra and hoodie for skin to skin. With my first I wore a nursing bra and pulled my shirt down to do skin to skin do I was pretty exposed with visitors and didn't care until I thought back on it lol. My second I wore nursing tanks and cardigans or short robes but she was in nicu and we didn't get to do skin to skin anyway. Like pp said, nothing got really messy, definitely not to the point where I had to toss anything.

I wore what I like to wear at home, sweat pants and a t-shirt. I used a nursing tank.

I liked the sports bra type nursing bras. I think I got mine from target. They're soft and comfortable, meant for sleeping. They pull up easily. I wore black yoga pants and button up tops. Nothing I brought from home got messy and had to be tossed.

And while it's true it may take a few days for your milk to fully come in, the colostrum produced in those first few days is really all baby needs. Plus the regular stimulation of breastfeeding is what brings in your milk - so it's important to nurse regularly in the hospital. If you do bottle feed, you should use a pump for the stimulation you're missing from baby directly.

I packed a nursing bra and 2 sets of loungewear/pajamas from Macys (Alfani brand). They were V-neck short sleeve shirts and elastic waist pants, and like a very soft cotton. I did that because I wanted to be comfortable but also presentable for guests because I am nuts. To this day I still wear them to bed, they are my fave.

I had an emergency C section with DD1 so I was in the hospital for 5 days. My milk came in between day 3-4 so I was definitely taking advantage of my nursing bras and tanks while in the hospital.
DD2 was a scheduled C section and my milk was in 24ish hours after giving birth. I had a hefty flow with forceful let downs so I had to pump before feeding her so she wouldn't choke so having the nursing bras and nursing tops were really helpful.

I bought a new pair thatbthe top was a button down. I got a lot of use out of them since I nursed for over a year. Just buy them in black. I didn't get anything on them...I also wore depends lol.

I bought one regular nursing bra and one soft sports bra style bra to sleep in. I wore my PJs, lounge pants and t shirts. None of my clothes got ruined- not even my panties. Also, there is no reason to supplement unless the doctor feels your baby is it getting enough nourishment. The Kelly mom website is a good resource for questions about nursing.

I wore a nursing bra and brought a nursing tank to wear. I also had a nice robe and just a regular pair of sweatpants.

ETA: I didn't get dressed the first day- I had on the mesh underwear, clean hospital gown, and my robe. I was bleeding pretty heavily and bled through to the sheets, even with changing my pad pretty frequently. The next morning I was discharged and I was up early, showered, and dressed.

For nursing bra I recommend Gilligan and O malley Brand from Target. They have a super comfy cotton, wireless, racer back nursing bra.

For pj's I'd get a nursing shirt with a big scoop neck or a crossover type shirt. It makes it so easy to do skin to skin if you want to. I put my LO right in my shirt and still felt covered when I had visitors. I wore regular loose pj pants. Yoga pants felt too constricting after my CS. They bothered my incision.

Also, in most cases your milk comes in in a few days, the baby drinks / eats colostrum in the meantime. It's usually all they need bc their tummies are so small. You probably don't need to supplement unless your milk doesn't come in or your supply is low. You may want to though so you can get some rest at night! We gave our ds formula two nights in the nursery so we could sleep. 5 months later and that was the only formula he had. It had no impact on supply or his ability to bf. Just trust your gut and don't let anyone pressure you into exclusively bfing or pushing formula and when in doubt ask your ped :)

I wore a nursing tank with built in bra pretty much the whole time. Or a soft nursing bra with a tank top. Yoga pants on bottom. None of my clothes got ruined. Yeah you bleed, but for me it was totally manageable.

Also, I never gave my children a bottle in the hospital. Newborns don't need much milk, and your milk may even come in before the baby is born, you never know. If you're set on nursing, don't go in thinking you're going to have to give bottles - unless you want to, then it's totally fine of course, totally your choice. But the best way to get your body to produce milk is to nurse.
