What happens after School?

My son just turned 4 and he is at BCW, doing great (went from 15 words to over 300 words in less than 6 months). I know that he will continue to attend BCW next year as well. But what happens after that? Do they get placed in the local school? what if the local elementary doesn't have a Special Ed program? I know it's further down the line, but I am starting to worry and want to better understand this process. Can anyone share your experience? Has your child stayed in a school like BCW (little village or Variety) for a certain age? Do they all leave these schools when they turn 5 and then go to local elementary? Thank you everyone

Re: What happens after School?

Many students go into a class in the district, the district will observe him before the transition meeting and then recommend the class they think he will be a fit for (for example, self contained, integrated, as well as class ratio like 12-1-1, etc). If they do not have a class that will meet his needs then they will recommend out of district placement. Some schools like Little Village have a school age program but I don't believe BCW does.

This.
You can call your cpse chair and ask what types of classes your district has for Kindergarten. The district will send in a team to observe at some point during pre-k and make recommendations at your annual meeting.

I think Little Village, BOCES and Variety have kindergarten
