Preimplantation genetic screening
As I prep for my first round of ivf my doctor offer for us to do this genetic screening right after retrieve but before implantation. Anyone else done it? It's it worth it? What he did mention is that if we decide to do it it would delay implantation another month so I assume it would not be with fresh embryos but frozen ones after tested.. sorry in advance for the 1000 question I would be asking in the next couple of months

Re: Preimplantation genetic screening
If your doctor is sugggesting it, presumably it's worth it. Do you have a history of miscarriages? Are you a carrier for a genetic condition you are trying to avoid?
Basically they'll do a retrieval, biopsy the embryos, freeze them, then you'll transfer them on a frozen cycle- like you said. You should have the results of the genetic testing by the time you start your frozen cycle. Do you have any questions specifically?

All of this! I have a history of miscarriage so we did the testing.

Preimplantation genetic screening
This is our first ivf no miscarriage just haven't been able to conceive naturally. No genetic condition in my family My questions is is it better to do a "fresh" transfer or it doesn't matter? What type of things should expect to hear from this test?

Re: Preimplantation genetic screening
Fresh or frozen doesn't really matter, but if you're doing pgd on day 5, it'll have to be a frozen transfer. The only way to do pgd with a fresh transfer is to do the testing on day 3, but that's "old technology" today.
From doing pgd, you'll hear which of the embryos are genetically normal. If you care to look at the full report, you'll see the breakdown for each of the embryos.., which had trisomy, etc.

Preimplantation genetic screening
There is no 'right' or 'wrong' decision with this. We did PGS only after I miscarried twins because the thought of more potential miscarriages was painful. Plus I was older. So it depends on a lot of factors. And of course money. Fresh versus frozen cycle doesn't matter......I believe outcomes for success are similar. I would however suggest to look into pricing before testing. We decided to test a our embryos as a group because it was cheaper so depending on how many embryos you make may depend on if you test right away or wait and do more retrievals. May I ask which clinic you are cycling at?

I'm in Florida. I am waiting to see how much/ if my insurance would cover part of the treatment. I know they would not cover the PGs in the original meeting the doctor said that would be around $200 per embryo

Re: Preimplantation genetic screening
I believe it's absolutely worth it. I had 2 mc's from cycles with our frozen embryos that looked great (but not PGD tested). We then did a few all freeze cycles and PGD tested them. I got pregnant with my first transfer of one PGD blast. My baby is crying for me right now as I type. It saved a lot more heartache and money too, since every single embryo transfer we did cost in the thousands.

Re: Preimplantation genetic screening
I'm doing pgd testing as hubby and I are a carrier for the same disorder. While we are not infertile we don't want to pass this mutation to our future child. Without doing the pdg we carry a 25% chance with each pregnancy I carry.
Insurance did not cover it. We are paying out of pocket.

Preimplantation genetic screening
There a diff between PGD and PGS. We had to learn the difference between both.
f you’re looking into IVF, you may have seen references to PGD and PGS. Both are types of genetic testing performed on cells from embryos in the embryology lab, but they have different purposes and screen for different genetic problems.
Preimplantation genetic screening, or PGS, is a type of genetic screening which determines if the cells in an embryo have the correct number of chromosomes. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes. Chromosomal abnormalities such as too many or too few chromosomes are among the most common reasons for failure of embryos to implant and of miscarriage, and are more likely to happen as a woman’s eggs get older. PGS does not test for a specific disease. However, Down syndrome is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21 and PGS can detect that.
PGDPreimplantation genetic diagnosis, or PGD, is another type of genetic screening which detects the presence of genes for specific diseases. This test is important if you or your male partner have a history of genetic diseases in your family and you want to be sure you are not passing it on to a child. In some cases you may be a carrier for a disease without having the disease yourself.
with that being said, we are doing a donor cycle and were doing PGS testing. They fertilize and grow embryos until day 5. They extract cells to be tested. While thats happening, they freeze the embryos. Once the results come back, you find out which embryos are normal and which are not. Once you find that out you can prep for a frozen transfer. They won't be frozen for long. We paid an extra $5000 but that is for any embryo of any cycle we do with the fertility clinic.
