Nothing will change unless they feel it in their bottom line and profits. Maybe they shoudl be forced to refund fares or let people ride for free every time there are issues like this. Then maybe they would have an incentive to fix things. Because honestly, what do they care, they still make their money. Eff the riders.
Yep you are totally right. They know riders have to commute daily and have no choice but to pay the fare increases. I think the chances of us getting any type of refund are slim to none...
I agree.
Or be fined somehow every time there is an issue like this. And I think "signal issue" is code for someone not showing up for work or falling asleep on the job

I think fines are a great idea. This is honestly a joke.

Re: LIRR, yet once again.
Fines and holding back payments would be a great idea - but who are you going to fine? You really can't fine the LIRR for delays at Penn since Amtrak is responsible.
Amtrak and the LIRR have a long history of not playing nice. A large majority of the delays with the building of the East Side access is due to Amtrak.
In order to hold back payments, the Governor has to get involved since the LIRR is a quasi-state agency. Hopefully Cuomo will show some b@lls and stand up the Amtrak over the mess that is Penn.

You fine Amtrak if they are the cause.

Re: LIRR, yet once again.
LIRR Customers Need A Drink, And The Milleridge Inn Knows This
LINK
The Milleridge Inn in Jericho is holding a “LIRR Sucks Party” on Thursday and offering a free drink to all Long Island Rail Road commuters.
Why? Because these train riders have been through enough. They deserve a drink.
At Milleridge Inn, located at 585 North Broadway, anyone with a train ticket will get a free drink at the bar.
"As a former commuter, I know there's nothing worse than waiting for hours to catch a train, especially after a long work day," Milleridge Innkeeper Butch Yamali said in a statement. "Hundreds of our customers commute every day to and from the city, and they've really been feeling the pain."
LIRR commuters have dealt with insane amounts of delays and cancellations over the past few months. On Wednesday afternoon, access to Penn Station was restricted due to overcrowding and multiple trains were canceled due to signal trouble. In April, the LIRR suffered delays, cancellations and diverted routes for an entire week during morning and afternoon rush hour.
The event actually has two names, the "LIRR Sucks Party" or the "LIRR Hope Party." The name you prefer probably depends on whether you are a realist or an optimist.

Re: LIRR, yet once again.
This is from an article in Newsday regarding yesterday's outage. Not sure what it means. Human error?
'The problem that caused the disruption for about three hours Wednesday ‘‘does not appear to be an Amtrak infrastructure maintenance issue, unlike other incidents,’’ according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the LIRR’s parent agency. ‘‘Root causes are still under review, but today’s p.m. rush-hour issues do not appear to be related to maintenance and repair issues.’
Amtrak, which owns and maintains Penn Station and the tunnels leading into the hub, said the problem was caused by a “dispatcher routing issue.’’ The railroad did not elaborate.'

LIRR, yet once again.
commuting in gerenal just sucks. DH got stuck yeterday with the LIRR issue and got in almost an hour late. I commute by car, and both the throgs neck and whitestone brdiges are undergoing construction at the same time. What should be a 5 minute ride over the bridge has turned into 30 minutes due to the lane closures and lane shifts. The prices for that keeps going up too. You just cant win

LIRR, yet once again.
The railroad has sucked for years. I started riding it daily back in 1990 and there was as many delays then as there are now. There were many nights I was stuck in the city and had to get hotel rooms. There is no excuse for the inadequacy of the rail system. Cuomo needs to step up and do something but he won't because he's an ass and doesn't care about Long Islanders. It should be privatized and then maybe it would be run properly.

I've been riding it for the last 8yrs and while I agree it has always sucked and there have always been delays, nothing has ever even come CLOSE to what we have been experiencing the last few months. This isn't a once a month or even once a week occurrence anymore. This is happening EVERY night!

Re: LIRR, yet once again.
I totally agree. My theory is that they band-aided all the damage from Sandy and now everything is falling apart... It's always been bad but never THIS bad....

traveling does suck as mentioned above because its getting worse everywhere.
So glad I no longer need the LIRR, since stopping 1/2017 it seems to have gotten worse
I now travel to Garden city and some how it still takes me 2o plus in the AM and 1/2 hr to get home and all I do is drive through the park
