In April, I would also do Florida...if it was earlier in the year, I would do the Caribbean or Mexico, but at that time, I think Florida is perfect weather wise, a quick flight, and they do have fabulous resorts!

Check out the Sandpearl or Opal Sands in Clearwater. Amazing and the Gulf Coasts beaches are just beautiful
Or try Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Hollywood Beach (Fort Lauderdale area). Its brand new and beautiful and amazing
Both locations have direct flights from Islip too so that's a plus

There are tons of hotels/resorts on the Gulf side of Florida. Sirata Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach was awesome. When looking at hotels/resorts, definitely stay on the side of the beach, not across the street. It's a PITA to get everything to the beach and parking is a huge PITA.
Alden Suites was good too (SPB). The suite I was in was small (only reason I wouldn't go back, everything else was great).
I've stayed in a condo too on the beach. Sunset Vistas in Treasure Island. Would go back, was great. This place even had a huge bin full of sand toys for the kids to use on the beach.

Florida! DH & I went the past two years to Fl in April & May and the weather was perfect. Pink Shell Resort in Fort Meyers last year and Cheeca Loge in Islamorada in the Keys this past May Both were amazing!! I LOVED Cheeca in the keys. Laid back, perfect weather, pool was great too.

We just booked a trip to Jamaica. There are tons of direct flights to Montego Bay and most resorts we looked at are within 30 minutes of the airport.
We ended up booking at the Tryall Club, which is an all villa resort because we are going with extended family, but I think they also have a section with 2 bedroom suites. Other resorts we looked at that had 2 bedroom suites are Half Moon and Round Hill.

Hawks Cay in the Florida Keys or South Seas resort on Captiva Island. Both are amazing and in Florida.
