Disney monorail hotels *Updated with another question
Which one is your preference and why ??
**For those that stayed in the Contemporary - the Bay Lake Tower looks nicer than the original tower and garden wing. Is there any down sides to it? Out of the 3 options which is closer walk to the MK? Which is closer to boats and buses?
Has anyone stayed in Bay Lake Tower Studios? How are the sleep sofa? We only need the studio but I wish it had 2 doubles instead of the sofa

Disney monorail hotels
we liked the polynesian because it also has really easy access to the Transportation And Ticket Center, which has even more transportation options. you can walk there...

We love the Contemporary and the Polynesian. The Contemporary is closest to Magic Kingdom and you can walk there. That's a great feature, especially after fireworks when everyone and their mother is waiting for transportation. We love the Poly also for it's theming as well as it's proximity to the TTC as the above poster stated. That really comes in handy when you want to go to Epcot. It saves you from having to transfer to another monorail line. The Grand Floridian is a beautiful hotel but definitely not worth the price tag.

The monorail is always down, so if you are utilizing that Transportation feature as your main focus, I would pick the Contemporary since you can walk

this, too! we stayed at the Poly last year, but didn't really take the monorail from there at all. it seemed like it was always down, or just on a weird schedule, that the buses or walking to the TTC was quicker, or boat to MK... so i wouldn't really use the monorail to finalize your decision. look at the theme you like, and other features of the hotel that you might like... we're staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge this year, which apparently is "Far" from the parks, but we're super excited about the theme and it look beautiful!!!

Re: Disney monorail hotels
Thanks for the replies everyone- might change our minds if the monorail is that bad. Was a main reason to stay there . Does the boat go between the resorts if the monorail is down?(for dinner reservations)

Depending on where you need to go, you might have to transfer boats at the MK dock. I don't think the Poly and GF boat goes to the Contemporary. I'm not 100% sure though

I have been 3 times in 3 years and never had a problem with the monorail. We really don't like the Contemporary

Re: Disney monorail hotels
DH and I typically go to Disney 1-2 times a year (DVC owners). At least one of those trips each year (if not both) is at a monorail hotel.
We have NEVER had an issue with the monorail of any great significance. Last October, we had one day (we were at Epcot) where the monorail wasn't running so they had bus service back to the Poly.

Re: Disney monorail hotels
We have stayed at the Poly for the past two years and love it, so easy with my daughter's stroller to get on the monorail. We didn't have any issues with the monorail not running etc. We keep thinking about trying the Contemporary or the Grand Floridian but keep going back to the Poly because it is the easiest for transportation-being so close to the Ticket and Transportation Center makes it so much easier.

Re: Disney monorail hotels
We stayed at the contemporary the last 2 summers and are at poly now...I like contemporary better...being able to walk to your hotel at the end of the day from MK is so nice...have not had a problem at monorail or buses...contemporary has a digital display for the next buses coming and where they are going which is nice...pool at poly is nicer though. I also like how if you are in the main tower you are in same building as monorail and stores/restaurants at contemporary...at poly there are so many buildings so you always have to walk from your building to the main building where everything is.

Disney monorail hotels
We stayed at poly and contemporary. I like the poly hotel better just had a nicer feel but love the walk to the MK from the contemporary. The mono rail is soooooo nice and convenient. I have been twice in 3 yrs and going again in Nov and been many times as a kid and don't ever remover monorail being down. Especially that past few times never ever down.

There is a boat route that stops at the Poly, Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom.
There is also a boat route between the Contemporary, Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge.
From the Poly, you can also take the big ferry from Transportation and Ticket Center to Magic Kingdom, but we never do this - much nicer to take the small boats if you're taking a boat.

Re: Disney monorail hotels
Thanks for all the replies - very helpful info!
Heres a quick question: so bonus of Contemporary is the walk to MK (or back after the fireworks instead of waiting for buses). If you stay at the Poly or Grand F is there any benefit to walking back to Contemporary and grabbing the monorail there to get back to the other resorts (instead of waiting in long line at MK for monorail)?

You can walk back from MK to contemporary instead of waiting for the monorail, not the bus.
You could walk to contemporary and then grab the monorail to Gf Or poly, but you might as well just take it from the MK

Re: Disney monorail hotels
There are so many ways to get back to the poly at the end of the night. If the monorail line is huge and say we just missed one and there's a boat waiting we jump on that - either the ferry or resort line. They "stack" monorails at park closing so there's never a really long wait at the end of the night. Also remember you can get on any monorail - either resort or transportation and ticket center.

Re: Disney monorail hotels
Is there any other resorts that connect easily with the monorail resorts? I know that Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness (cabins) have a boat to MK but not sure if they connect to the resorts as well?
Our main reason for wanting to stay at monorail is that we will be visiting MK two days and doing a few meals at the monorail resorts so being centrally located is helpful. Just wondering if there are cheaper options than the monorail resorts that still have access to them.

The cheapest monorail option is the garden wing at the contemporary. You're not in the tower part.

There is a boat that goes between Fort Wilderness/Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary.
If you want to stay in the Magic Kingdom area, but don't want to pay deluxe prices, check out the cabins at Fort Wilderness.

Thanks! Have you stayed in either before? Any idea if its easy or time consuming to take boat to contemporary than monorail to poly?

Re: Disney monorail hotels
We love Wilderness Lodge - I find it to be so peaceful and such a nice break from the craziness of Disney.
We used to stay at Fort Wilderness all the time when I was a kid (before they had cabins and you used to rent trailers to stay there). I thought it was the best place in the world!!! I haven't stayed there in forever, but we've visited friends who were staying in the cabins, and they were really cute and spacious. I love the campground itself.
We've gone back and forth lots of times between the poly, contemporary, grand floridian and wilderness lodge and fort wilderness for dinner, the hoop de doo, etc.
It's not really a pain to get back and forth. Sometimes if it's a nice night and we're not in the parks, we will just take a boat ride and ride the loop after dinner.

I used to stay at Fort Wilderness too (we had a camper growing up) - it really did feel like the best place in the world!
Last trip we stayed at the Swan and wind up taking taxis to go to our resort meals and even some park early breakfasts. The buses took too long and our kids are little - it was so much waiting.
