Re: Disney monorail hotels
From Fort Wilderness, you'd need to walk down to the boat dock (or you could rent a golf cart to drive around the resort for the time you're there). From the boat dock at the contemporary, it's a short walk into the building and the monorail station.
From Wilderness Lodge, it's just a short walk to the boat dock.
Boats run back and forth from early in the morning (in time for breakfast) to late at night.

Disney monorail hotels
We loveeeeeeee the GF. It's just beautiful. Love the grounds and the theme. Great pool area too. It's more of a style preference, I guess. Being able to walk to MK just isn't something I care too much about and I've never had a monorail issue the 4 times I've been.

Thank you so much! A million Disney sites out there and this is the type of info I can never find.

Re: Disney monorail hotels
You're welcome. There are also internal buses at Fort Wilderness you can use instead of walking down to the boat dock.

Re: Disney monorail hotels *Updated with another question
Bay Lake is the DVC part of the contemporary. We (DVC owners) stay there a lot. It is slightly closer to magic kingdom than the regular tower contemporary and the garden wing. All services are inside the main tower of the contemporary (monorail, restaurants, shopping, etc.). The bus stop is outside the main contemporary tower. Garden wing is the furthest from everything.
The studios are small at bay lake. None have two beds. It's the queen and the pull out sofa. its just DH and I so we've never used the sleeper sofa but I can imagine that the room would be crowded with it open.
There are no services in bay lake tower at all (except the lounge at the top which is only for DVC owners). You will need to walk over to the contemporary for evywrhing (but it's just across the bridge). Oh and bay lake has its own pool. You can also use the pools at the contemporary but the contemporary guests can't use bay lake's.
