DD in K is not eating her lunch
I give her simple things that she likes. She eats it when she gets home very quickly because she is hungry. She only eats a few bites at breakfast and barely touches her school snack. Did your DC do this when they started full day school?

Re: DD in K is not eating her lunch
Did she tell you why? Sometimes my DD would say she was too busy talking or "having fun" to finish her lunch. Or is she not feeling hungry at lunch time? I know DD's K lunch period was at like 11 am. Maybe they eat too early?

DD in K is not eating her lunch
I would wonder if she's just too busy socializing? My kindergartener has never eaten so much in her life! She eats her usual breakfast, then they're given breakfast at school so she usual eats a little there, she finishes her whole lunch, then snack. I feel like all they do is eat all day!

Re: DD in K is not eating her lunch
DD just started 1st grade but she did/does this a lot. When I ask her why she usually says "the other kids" were distracting her and she didn't have time. So she was too busy chit chatting.
Sometimes her snack fills her up. They eat snack at 10 and lunch at 11:30 so not much time in between. I always have to have at least 2 snacks for the car ride home (which is only 15 mins) because she is starving by the time I pick her up.

She tells me she didn't have time, but not why...I think she has to be hungry because she's been up 5 hours by lunchtime and barely eating before then. Today, she had a juice box and half a cheese stick for lunch.

DD in K is not eating her lunch
Yes, my kids did this and it drove me crazy, they were cranky and starving by the time they got home. Now that I work in elementary schools and often help in the cafeteria, I see what's going on! Our district gives the kids 20 minutes to eat, which goes very quickly. Encourage her to sit down, take out her lunch and get down to business. The little ones are usually too busy talking and run out of time. As an aide, I walk around the tables and remind them to eat. Give it a little time, she's get it. You can mention your concerns to the teacher...I already have my list of kids who need a little more prodding!

Re: DD in K is not eating her lunch
The kids get BARELY 15 minutes to eat lunch. I believe that is why. There is no time.

DD in K is not eating her lunch
I remember when I was in the cafeteria for bake sales in K, and the kids would be talking and half the lunches went in the trash. The other issue was, the kids didn't know how to open their packages, so the aides had to come to each kid to open their yogurt, etc. So make sure she can actually open all of her items. If not, get a bento style box. Our kids get 25 minutes to eat, and my DD is able to finish her lunch in that time

We get half an hour for lunch If they are buying they might have less time to eat because they have to wait on line to buy food but if they bring they sit down right away and have half an hour which should be plenty

DD in K is not eating her lunch
Most of the time it is because the kids are too busy talking to eat their food. She will get use to the new schedule and hopefully start eating more. If she says she does not have enough time to eat, you can always ask the teacher if she can have a "working" snack in the afternoon.

I was very appreciative of the aides that did this in DDs school

DD in K is not eating her lunch
Yep my Kindergartner came home with her whole lunch barely touched. She barely took a bite of it and then was hungry for snacks. I was so mad. She told me that she didn't have time to eat. She is such a slowww eater it takes forever for her to finish but one bite come on.
