You can always have counsel present. They may not be able to speak on your behalf, but you can.
I am assuming you are pressing charges against someone? The subject confused me

If you're pressing charges on someone you don't need a lawyer at all.

Not me, but a friend went to the station to press charges and felt belittles and harassed by the officers.
