Tooth Pulled Early
At just about 2 years old my son fell and hurt and chipped his tooth to the point where one of us front teeth has been varying shades of gray since. Now, at 3.5 my son is in the beginning stages of infection-dentist said he has a fistula and if it remains/doesn’t go away in a month or gets worse his tooth will have to come out. I know it is commonplace but I am just upset about the situation. I cant Imagine a 3.5 year old with no front tooth. Has anyone been in this situation? Does it impact speech? Did your child get over it relatively fast? I was told it is just a small shot of novocaine and a simple twist and the tooth is out...am I going to be more scarred then my son???

Re: Tooth Pulled Early
Two if my close friends had this happen with their sons. They were way more traumatized than the boys! They both said it was super easy at the dentist and the boys were fine! It didn't bother either one of them. Both of their speech is perfect at 5 years old. They are both still waiting for their adult tooth and no one even notices it's missing. They were both around 2.5-3 when it happened.

Re: Tooth Pulled Early
a few of DD's friends had teeth removed early and it was fine. You barely notice it- the baby teeth are so small that the space they leave is tiny.
As far as the procedure, if they offer sweet air, take it. I was a nervous wreck about DD having sweet air for a cavity, because I am not a fan of drugs of any kind and never used it myself, but man did it make the experience a breeze.
She didn't even know that she had a needle and she has zero fear of the dentist. She was 100% fine as soon as they turned it off too. I will always get it for her going forward

Re: Tooth Pulled Early
My sister had it done maaaaany years ago when she was 2. They put a space maintainer in (a fake tooth connected by wire behind her tooth and attaching to her back molars) so there was no space and it kept her teeth from closing that space...aka it maintained the space for her adult tooth. When she started losing teeth, they just took it out.

Re: Tooth Pulled Early
My Son had has tooth pulled around that age. Another child at pre-school elbowed him by accident and the tooth was dying so they suggested we get it taken out to prevent complications with infection or with his adult teeth coming in.
My Son had to get anesthesia, he wasn't put out but he got IV and laughing gas. The Dentist tried doing it and he freaked so we had to take him to a specialist. It was 10-15 mins and done! No big deal at all and zero side effects with speech, eating, etc...

Re: Tooth Pulled Early
My son knocked his 2 front teeth at 3. It was fine. he looked adorable. Small kids don't even notice & when he got to K, he wasn't the only one with a missing tooth due to an accident. You don't want an infection. He'll be ok.
