Anyone else had a breast sono? UPDATE

I had my mamo today and Dr. suggest sono because I have dense tissue. No issues but it was a really weird uncomfortable procedure. It didn’t hurt but not a fan. Hopefully results will be good and I’m happy that I have health care that will cover preventative. Just a weird experience. Same for anyone else?

Eta: got the all clear today!!! Just to be clear the tech was very professional but for me I guess the gel and everything was a weird ticklish feeling and just lasted longer than I expected. I'm in the minority here. Actual mamogram wasn't so bad.
I don't want to discourage anyone from going it wasn't horrible just another new adventure in women's healthcare for me ??

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

I have to agree. I always have a sonogram after the Mammo, and I find the sono to be more uncomfortable. However, it's worth it for them to be able to get the clear pictures they need. Hope you're results are good.

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

Never had a breast sono but I always feel violated after a pelvic exam and the few times I had to have an internal sono when pregnant I felt super violated and it took me a long time to get over the creepy feeling.
So I hear you!

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

I had a breast sono. What made you uncomfortable? Obviously, I didn't love it but it certainly wasn't uncomfortable. The tech was friendly and put a paper gown over me that just had my right breast exposed. The whole lasted about 15 minutes.

None of it is comfortable! Hate it! But honestly it's good medical practice to send you for both, especially where we live. I used to exaggerate complaints to prompt the gyn to order a sono too. Better to be safe than sorry.

iTA it wasn’t uncomfortable but it wasn’t anything fun. It was over quickly and it was done professionally I didn’t feel too awkward or uncomfortable.

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

I routinely have breast sonos every six months and a mammo once a year. I don't find them uncomfortable. I've had an echo done by a male tech and that didn't bother me. He was looking at my heart not my boobs.

They aren't bad, show things more clearly than just the mammo. I take a Tylenol if my chest is sore, that usually goes away in a day.

I had one done years ago but I didn’t think it was uncomfortable. It was very quick. And I just had my first mammo done last month and it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. One side hurt more than the other side when they were doing it though.

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

Ive been having mammos and sonos since I was 30. Im now 43. I dont find either uncomfotable. Now waiting for the results is a whole other situation.

I find the mammo WAY more uncomfortable than the sono. I don't remember the sono being uncomfortable in any way - maybe I was just too terrified to notice b/c I was waiting to hear if the mass I found was cancer (it wasn't!).

Same here. I'd much rather have a sono than a mammo. I am usually sent for a sono after my mammo

Same! My annual protocol is a mammo followed by a sono bc of dense breast tissue.

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

I had that done prior to my mastectomy and yeah, it kind of left a queasy feeling in my stomach. It didn’t hurt but it was uncomfortable, and my nerves were at an all-time high because I had found a lump and was scared. And it took awhile. The mammo was much easier.

I don't mind it. I actually like the warm liquid.

I have a mammo and sono every year. I don't think it's a big deal. It's quick and painless.

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

I wonder if I am in the minoriity too then by feeling violated by those internal sonos aka the Dildo Cam.

Because I almost felt like I needed counselling after each one of those.

Re: Anyone else had a breast sono?

I had one done with my first (and only) mammo. I thought the mammogram was worse. As the sonogram tech was doing it, he told me I had "dense tissue" soit seemed to last a while - but I think it was only ordered since it was my first and they wanted a baseline.
The tech was very nice and while it wasn't a good time, I didn't feel uncomfortable.

I don't remember be bothered by that at all. I think I was just excited since I don't think they would have "seen" anything with the outside one at that time. Chat Icon
I also had no idea it was even a thing - but I was ok with it.
But I can see why some might find it - unsettling. Dildo cam is pretty funny, though!Chat Icon

I had to deal with problems conceiving. I think when you're getting internal sonos daily it almost becomes second nature. It's hard to remember...maybe the first few times I felt weird about it, but after the hundredth, I didn't even think twice.

Sonos don’t bother me. Hate mammograms. I’ve been getting them since I was 30 so I just grit my teeth and get through it. I’m on hiatus now though because I’m breastfeeding so the tests of fun will start again after I stop.

LOL, same here! I always have had a sono and mammo. I don't mind either, mammo doesn't hurt at all and sono definitely doesn't/ As PP said, I like the warm liquid feeling! Exactly what was uncomfortable wit the sono?

I had both done at the same time the first time & it was way weirder than I expected. I had a sono on my leg years early & the worst part was getting the goo off my leg.
The breast sono took longer than I expected & was kind of painful because the tech pressed down hard at certain times.
I get a kidney sono every year & that is painful sometimes too.
The internal sono was annoying too b/c it seems to take so long & after have a mama, and the both sonos back to back, I just really want to put my own clothes back on.

I also had internal radiation and that was terrible. I was quick & relatively painless (just warm & awkward), but that was very violating feeling. I'm not sure why more so than a sono or exams. I think maybe because I felt like a science experiment & the doctors have to leave the room while I was laying there with this thing inside me. It's very creepy. and also b/c my doc was training a resident & so it was very weird being show & tell & then
basically being her trial run to get it all set up. She wasn't as good at it as the main dr.

Fortunately I only needed 3 sessions, but I wallowed in self pity the rest of the day each time, starting with eating french toast alone in a diner & buying stuff I didn't need at Sephora.

I think everyone has a different feeling of uncomfort. I wasn't being hurt by the sono.but it just felt very weird to me. An almost uncomfortable ticklish feeling. And let's be honest being half naked even in front of a professional is still not fun. ??
