Where do you buy flights?
Where do you generally purchase tickets for your flights? In the past, I've always gone through Expedia. I've never had an issue, but I don't think I've gotten great deals either. We're pretty set on wanting JetBlue and the cost through JetBlue seems the same as through Expedia. I was just wondering if there's something I'm missing. When we first looked at flights a few weeks ago they were more than $50 less per person.
ETA: Though hmmm Expedia has up to 7% cash back in Ebates. JetBlue has nothing...

Where do you buy flights?
On the airlines website. I found most third party sites don't allow you to choose seats

Ahh that's a good call- we're all going to be purchasing separately but want to sit together.

Re: Where do you buy flights?
Expedia and the airlines website. So many factors in my decision. If I'm flying Delta or another airline. If I'm not checking a bag I will usually go through Expedia for the ebates. If I am checking a bag I will go through Delta. Since I get free checked bags and a few other perks when using the AMEX Delta card. And automatic insurance. If I decide to take it. And sometimes I've gotten cheaper flights directly from the airlines.
Last time I booked through Expedia. I was able to choose seats going but not coming back. Strange since it was the same airline.

Re: Where do you buy flights?
I go through the airlines website. My company booked me through expedia for a recent trip and they didn't realize they were purchasing Basic Economy on Delta. Which, if you know anything about it, is a TOTAL nightmare. It took them a long time and lots of aggrevation and an add'l fee to fix that.
You have to be careful of that. (And if you are flying Delta, don't ever purchase basic economy. It's soooo not worth it)

Last few trips have been expedia...as Nell said, the default is all basic economy, don't chose that! Before you pay you have the option to upgrade. Trip I planned this summer I looked directly on airlines various websites and it was the same or a few dollars more than expedia. So to just do hotel, airfare and rental car altogether, we went with expedia.

Directly from JetBlue. We have frequent flier numbers and it all fills itself out. I think that booking direct from airlines always have me the lowest price. Love, love, love JetBlue. They don’t ever overbook and are enjoyable to fly with.

once we decide where we want to go and when, i usually start stalking Kayak.com. they search all airlines and the prices. once i see that the price is what i feel like is a good deal, i book through the airline directly.

I'm all about JetBlue, too. We're pretty set on flying with them... especially with my 6'8" DH since JetBlue seems to have the most legroom in their regular seats... from our experience anyway.
Thanks everyone- I think we're going to purchase directly from JetBlue so we can purchase the Blue Plus tickets which include 1 checked bag and choose our seats. We're traveling with a big group and it's my DD's first flight so we want to make sure we're all together.

Skyscanner. Then I go to the airline website to see if I can avoid fees.

Re: Where do you buy flights?
I use google flights - its looks for the cheaper flights even if you're departing on one airline and arriving on a different one. It has links at the bottom on where to purchase from and it typically seems to be directly with the airline.

Yes, absolutely this.
The ONLY time I will ever book a flight through a third party such as expedia or travelocity is if I am booking a flight and hotel and there is a substantial discount for booking the two together (vs booking a flight directly with the airline and then the hotel directly through the hotel).

Ouch....it's a nightmare because you can not use the overhead bins at all so you end up paying for you to bring a carry on luggage onboard. You can not choose your seat it will be assigned to you usually when you check in (it's usually a middle seat) so if you're flying with children you may be spread out. Last but not least you cannot upgrade or change your ticket. So saving $20/$30 isn't worth it.

Yes it's pretty much like Final Sale. You made a mistake buying this fare? Too bad you can't change it. Also you'll be the first to get bumped if they are oversold and they get no volunteers to take another flight. And I feel like they are not transparent about what it is. They don't really explain any of this when they list it as Basic Economy. I really am not a fan of Delta to be honest.

Re: Where do you buy flights?
So our flights dropped again this week, almost to the price we originally saw them! We booked last night through JetBlue, got seats all together, and I'm so happy it's done and I can relax knowing I have this vacation coming! I need it bad!
