Disney at Christmas

We are usually a last week in August Disney family, but we were thinking of doing Disney next Christmas for a week...yay or nay? We can't go this year because I'm pregnant and next summer we are going to the Caribbean on a family trip, but I have the itch to go so badly! Is it totally insane that week? I'm a teacher so I have no flexibility with dates other than school vacation weeks. Thanks.

Disney at Christmas

There are times when the parks stop letting people in because they’re at capacity. We have left a couple of days before Christmas for the last 2 years and both times, on our last day, it was impossible to walk at times. I know there are lots of people who don’t mind the crowds, but you couldn’t lure me there with a free trip over Christmas break.

I'd imagine it's crazy. We usually go the week after Thanksgiving and it's so empty. I love it.

It's NUTS! Magic Kingdom has reached capacity several times over the past couple of years, and they have had to stop letting people in.

SIL and BIL both work there and love all the overtime they get, but said the parks are absolutely insane.

I’d do the February break, the following summer, Thanksgiving or even a shorter trip over a long weekend vs Christmas week there.

You could also “tack it on” your Carribean trip. Do a stop over and stay for 2-3 days. It would still cost you extra, but if the timing is low season, it may not be that much more than traveling in peak season.

But if you must, you must... just plan for crowds.

we go to disney every year- its one of my fave places ever!!! BUT i would never head there during christmas week! the magic kingdom a lot of times ends up closing due to capacity... so i would hate to be there and not be able to get into the park- especially with the cost! i totally get wanting to see it at christmas time, though!! we're going the first week of december, just for 4 nights pretty much just to check out all the christmas decorations and stuff since i've never seen them. they put up their christmas stuff in really early november- so maybe theres some way you could work out going for a few days then? and still be able to see all the christmas stuff?

As a teacher, I have absolutely no flex time and we get 2 days for Thanksgiving, so it makes it virtually impossible except on a longer school break. Stinks.

yeah :-/ i used to work in a school, so i get it- totally stinks!!! and I guess i forget this is an NY page HAHA because i live in NJ, and my kids get almost a whole week off in early november for the NJ Teacher's convention and election day. so a lot of people end up in Disney that week... hopefully you can figure out a time to get down there... or just go chrimstas week and plan like a crazy person to stay ahead of the crowds!! LOL

Disney at Christmas

We’ve been there that week. It was fine until New Year’s Eve. We were at Epcot, and by lunchtime, we couldn’t move because the place was so packed.

Re: Disney at Christmas

My dh and I went one year before kids. I’d do it without kids, not sure with. The parks do get insane, you do need to get there for rope drop. You can’t leave early and expect to be allowed back in. We flew down the night of Christmas Day, and the parks did get incrementally busier each day towards NYE. Having said that, if everyone in your crew is okay with not seeing everything and just walking around more than everything else, Christmas is a great time down there. I work in the schools too, and I get the frustration with finding travel time!
