If you DC takes the bus do you have them do it on the first day?

DD is a walker she typically goes to before care where they drive her to school but for the first day we bring her to school ourselves.

DS is starting K this year and he has to go to a different school then my DD attends and for that reason he will be getting a bus. Obviously we can't walk them both to school so me and DH will have to split up but I am debating about just sending him on the bus the first day. He is not like my DD so I can't be for sure he is not going to freak out once we get to school or be OK with the fact that we took him the first day but no other day.

So I am just wondering what other busers do.

I have him take the bus so it does not break routine. Plus with my kid, if I do it once, he will ask for it all the tiime.

when my DS started Kindergaretn, he took the bus on the first day. His teacher mailed us a huge laminated name tag for him to attach to his backpack for the first day. then when they get to school there are extra helpers that use the tags to help them get where they need to be. we kept it on his backpack for the first couple of weeks until he was into the routine. its scary... but i think its best to start off using the routine that he'll use every day. makes it easier all around. good luck!!!!

Thanks guys. I feel a little guilty sending him on the bus while I take her the first day but I am going to get over it since it will be better for him just to go on the bus and looks like others send their kids on the bus the first day too

Take the bus the 1st day. All the kids that age are most likely going to be on the bus for the very first time so they have each other.
Also I feel that if you drive them then they may not want to ever go on the bus after knowing mommy can just drive me.
I know a lot of parents who follow the bus the first day for peace of mind too.

My 2 older kids have always started the year on the bus. I have a handful of days that I drive them, but I typically don’t like driving them, I’ve found some parents to be nuts in that line Chat Icon

Yes, it’s a “tradition” around here for parents to drive to school following the bus and walk their kids in. It’s ridiculous IMO. There is plenty of staff to be sure the Kers find their class... and I saw SO many tears (I did it for my second kid). This is a neighborhood where they send kids to preschool starting 2 years old.

I just can't imagine the parking and traffic nightmare that would cause too.

yes I am that Mom.... followed the bus on DS first day of K- I couldn't help myself, a ton of other parents did it too.... he is my first in school, when I was following the bus I was like "my life is in that bus" it's weird I am not the sentimental helicopter mom typically, but that bus ride was agony- and then i cried in my car like a nut and went back to work
