Middle Names - My older daughter has my mother's first name and my younger daughter has the female version of my FIL's name

Middle names are after grandparents. Their first names are just ones we liked with no family ties.

My DS is named after my DH. He is the 4th generation with this name so we felt obligated to keep it going

We actively avoid it. All of Shauns uncles on his mothers side have sons with the same name and now almost all of them have sons named after them...

we are having our 3rd girl so we dont have to worry about that. But even for girls names we actively avoid repeats.

First names are unique within the family. My first 2, their middle names are after my dad and FIL. My third’s first name is actually the last name of DH’s grandmother (originally this wasn’t on purpose but it did turn out to be a nice tribute). Fourth will happen to have the same name as one of my cousins and one of DH’s cousins but not on purpose (it’s a pretty common name). I avoid using names of close relatives. I have the same first name as my mother and I have hated this my whole life so I wouldn’t do that to our kid.

DS is named after DH, and the passing down of the first name goes back generations. DS has my dad’s first name as his middle name.

Our kids aren't named after anyone, we wanted unique names that were all our own.

My husband and son have the same first name but different middle names. I loved my husband first name and wanted it for my first son. It does get confusing at times so I usually use me sons middle name along with his first name to clarify who Im talking to.

I actively avoided having dd name after a family member. Her first name is a name I love and we picked a middle name that starts with DH’s first initial- it is also a name I really like

My older son is named after both of his grandfathers (which also ends up being the same name as my father in law because his middle name is my fathers first name). We call him by his initials.

My second son has just a name we liked and has DHs name as his middle name. I had wanted to name him after DH and use the Irish form of his name but a lot of our friends used that name and half of our neighborhood seems to have that name so I’m glad we didn’t.

the middle names for DS and DD are my husband's parents first names. His parents died a long time ago in the 1990's and I never met them. The middle name is also my Dad's middle name .

I guess I would be an "other" option. Dh is named after his father, and grandfather, etc. I did not want our son to have the same name as him to continue the "tradition" because having the same name as his dad has caused some issues (when applying for our mortgage, it recognized his dad's house as being my dh's property, also some issues when applying for car insurance all of my FIL's accidents came up). When DS was born we named him a variation of his name that we both liked.

Yes my DS1 was named after DH, but they have different middle names bc my DHs middle name is FILs name and he’s a terrible human being. DS2 has my DHs initials.

My middle name is my aunts name. She passed away at such a young age and my mom wanted to honor her name.

We chose first names that we liked, but their middle names are our first names.

My daughter is named for both paternal great-grandparents. First name = husband's paternal grandmother. Middle name = my paternal grandmother.

My dd's first name is not named after anyone in the family. Her middle name was my aunt's name and dh's grandmother.

Our son has the name that my paternal and DH's maternal grandfather both happened to have, we love the name and since it was special to both families we went with it. DS's middle name is my dad's first name (actually DS'S name is my dads name inverted lol DADSMIDDLE DADSFIRST)

Our first dd is named after my great grandmother and has my mom’s middle name. DH vetoed our mothers’ names as first names (he didn’t like their names, not due to not wanting to name her after them in principle). Our second dd works out to be named symbolically after my grandfather but she’s not really named after anyone (his name means Easter in Italian and she’s Liliana, my Little Easter Lily), and has dh’s grandmother’s name as her middle name. If we had a boy, he’d be named after our dads in homage to the Italian tradition.
