Macy's Parade Balloon Inflating on Wed.
Has anyone done this in recent years? Was it crazy chaotic? How long did it take to walk through? Contemplating going on Wednesday evening

Macy's Parade Balloon Inflating on Wed.
I haven't been to the inflation in years but heard it's gotten very crowded and chaotic. I was thinking of taking my kids but changed my mind after reading reviews online.

I went twice over the past 5 yrs. And chaotic is an understatement...lol
Actually the 1st year I went it was lightly raining and it wasn't a terrible crowd at all. Got up to the balloons and took some pics.
The next year it was a pretty nice night and the crowds were insane. The cops keep everything moving pretty smoothly but the streets are so crowded. Some closed. You can only walk up one street and down the other. I actually gave up trying to get to the balloons. Went to Starbucks to have hot chocolate and read my book instead.
If it's something you never did and want to check off our bucket list. Do it. Just pack our patience because you'll need them. If you go in knowing what to expect it isn't so bad.
If the 2nd time I went was the 1st time I went I would've stuck it out. But since I saw them a year or 2 before is the only reason why I left.

Thanks ladies. I figured it was chaos! We went years ago when my son was a toddler, but it wasn't popular back then! We will probably skip it!

We went last year. It was really crowded. I think it took an out an hour and a half to wait in line and get to the balloons. If you go earlier in the day, it's not so bad. We did the Museum of Natural History first, so we were already tired when we got to the balloons. I wouldn't try to pack everything into one day.

There is a lot more security now than there has been in years past. I work in the area and I won't even go outside on Wednesday after a certain time for fear of not being able to get back in my building.

I have a friend who tried to go last year and the line was too long. This year she's going around noon. They let you start going in an 1pm. You won't see the balloons blown up yet, though. If you go around 3pm, you'll see the balloons more inflated, but you maybe on a line. Any time in the evening, forget it.
It's sad because I remember going about 20 years ago and we'd have a casual dinner and walk over to the park. There were people there, but it was never a line or overly crowded. That's not the case anymore. Plus, security is very tight now, which also slows it down.
