Recommend Your Doctor

DH and I have been going to LIIVF for 6 months now and are getting nowhere. All tests have continued to come back normal and then when we had our 3rd IUI today, DH had a low count- 2 million. I contacted my doctor and now he's looking back at the original analysis and comparing it to the 3 IUI's and is saying that yes, DH does have a low sperm count despite telling us it was normal. I love the office and staff but I feel like it's time to get checked out elsewhere. I'm not happy with the lack of results and the fact that I have to push to get answers.

Friends of mine had a terrible experience with Dr. Palter so I won't go there... but does anyone have any experience with Dr. Zapantis in Syosset? I'm open to all suggestions.

Thank you!

With low count they will probably suggest IVF next. There is a higher rate of success. As for REs I did see Dr. Zapantis and did like him but did not have success there. I needed someone who thought more outside the box with my case. I went to SIRM NYC Dr. Tortoriello and had success. Getting a second opinion was the best thing I could have done. I'd ask your current RE for a new plan and to be more aggressive. If you have any questions you can message me since I have been at this for a long time. Good luck.

I started at LIIVF too. We also did 3 IUIs and then I left. I didn't like the dr or the office. I went to Dr. Palter based on my other friends' recommendations and I am currently 37w after my first IVF cycle with him. My other friend used Dr. Zapantis and has nothing but good things to say about him. She was successful both times she did IVF with him and has 2 precious babies. Another friend of mine went to Dr. Hershlag (Natalie Portman's dad) and loved him. She was also successful on her first IVF attempt.

We had severe Male Factor Infertility and used RMA of NY. We had success with our first round of IVF there. They had the best statistics 5 years ago for MFI when I did extensive research.

DH has low count and everything actually. We were told we were not good candidates for IUI so we went straight to IVF. For our first DD 11 years ago we used Columbia. Dr. Tortoriello was with them at the time and we got pregnant on our first IVF. Dr. T is with SIRM now I believe. For DD #2 we went with Cornell. A factory for sure but they have an awesome lab. We got pregnant on our first IVF with them.

Re: Recommend Your Doctor

Thank you for your recommendations. My doctor actually told us the opposite-- he said IUI is the optimal choice for us but we have had 3 already and my insurance only covers 6. We had 6 million sperm with 100% motility the first two IUI's but then it drastically lowered this time. I know stress can play a factor as well and DH has been beyond stressed lately with work, so I almost wonder if that's the issue. I just don't feel we're ready for IVF yet (DH doesn't want to do IVF at all bc of $) but I also don't like how I have to push this doctor to get answers. He said that an expensive medication called ConceptionXR could help but we won't see results for 3-6 months. I guess that's why I'm looking for a second opinion- I asked him if there were any other options on how to improve sperm count and he said no. I'm curious to hear a different doctor's input on this.
