Newborn clothing

Asking for my Sister in law, since I have forgotten.
How many pajamas/ outfits /onesies would you suggest to have on hand in the newborn size?
Let’s say the baby will Be around 8 lbs.
would you suggest having more 0-3months in hand? My sil thinks the baby’s will grow quickly out of NB.
Thanks.

If the baby is 8 lbs, then none.

My DS was 8 lbs 9 oz, and fit into NB for about five days, maybe a week max before he regained to his birth weight. All those NB clothes for just a few days! We could’ve gone straight into 0-3 months.

Then I had my DD two months premature and had to send my mom out for preemie size clothes which were still swimming on her. my point is you never really know!

This is not necessarily true my son was 8.4 pounds and wore newborn clothes for a month.

Very few outfits. Maybe a cheap 3 pack just in case (and get gender neutral so it can be passed along). Realistically, babies don’t have blowouts at that age and that will get you through anything you need with minimal laundry.

My first 2 were in Newborn size for a week. They were born at 7 lbs.
The only child I had that was in newborn for about 3 weeks was my youngest... who was 6 lbs at birth.

I think it also depends on baby length not just weight. My last one was shorter than the others.

My sister had a 2 months early premie who went straight into 3 month clothing after a week. She has big kids though... premie was born at almost 9 lbs!!!

I’d err on the side of having a few things and then add as needed (like diapers).

Re: Newborn clothing

DD was 7 lbs and wore newborn for a long time.
Plus any estimate they give you as to what the baby will weigh at birth is never correct. I don't even know why they bother anymore to be honest.

But yeah, I needed a ton of newborn clothes.
She didn't move out of them for like 2 months at least.
I was so happy to have them.

Re: Newborn clothing

So long ago... but DS was 7 lb 4 oz and I kind of remember using newborn onesies a lot! Maybe not in terms of time, but because I had to change him because of accidents, him getting wet, spit up, etc.

My twins were 3& 5 lbs my 3lber was in new born clothes until like 2-3 months old Chat Icon I had nothing some 0-3 months thinking’s I would have had bigger babies! I would maybe have 1 pack new born onesies and like 1-2 outfits, she can always get more from amazon for a quick delivery! Same with diapers, my one twin was in a size 4 by 1 year old, the other was still in a size 2. At 2 years old my one is in a size 5 the other in a 4... and a 4 is pretty loose on him, all depends on the kid!

Re: Newborn clothing

It's a crap shoot- baby might be 8 lbs but long and lean! DD was just under 7 lbs and was in newborn for a month or two, maybe a little longer.

I would have a few on hand. The dr's told me DS was well over 7lbs but when he was born he was 5lbs 9oz and he wasn't that long so he was in premie clothes for about 1 month. Then once he got into newborn clothes I was happy I didn't have to run out and buy them.

Ok. I guess my son gained weight faster or was longer than your son. I was just giving my experience and my basic point was you never know.

My DD wore newborn forever. Actually, she was a month early, so was in preemie for a bit too. 0/3 months was HUGE until she was 3 months. I would get at least a weeks worth of newborn clothing.

Re: Newborn clothing

Newborns are messy so I would say at least 10 - you can use the 0-3 but they will be big for a while.

I agree with pp -- you will need at least 10 outfits. My newborn was spitting up a ton, dribbling, drooling. I changed them like 3x a day.
I also suggest getting all ZIP UP clothing. I hated doing snaps at 3am. Or all all.

I had very little for DS (born 7lb 14oz) and regretted it because the 0-3m was big on him for a while. I had a good amount for DD (born 7lb 4 oz). Both were in newborn clothing for at least 4-6 weeks.

Re: Newborn clothing

My kids were 8 lbs and also wore newborn for at least a month I would say.

They used to spit up and crap all over themselves so they were changed like 3 times a day, lol.

I would say have like 15 zip up sleepers if you are like me and dont do laundry everyday, lol.

I used newborn clothes for about a month with my kids. One was 6 lbs and the other was 7 lbs. I would say to get 8-10 outfits.

Newborn clothing

IMO newborn onesies are not the expensive, so I would buy some maybe 8-10. Both my children wore them for a month before moving into the next size.

All of my boys wore NB for about 6 weeks. They ranged in weight from 6.12 lbs to 8.2 lbs when they were born. They weren't particularly long legged.

Newborn clothing

it depends really, i never used NB for dd2, she was 8lbs when she was born and 0-3 fits 8lb. So i just went with that.

But dd1 was in it for over a month for sure. She was only 6lbs 2oz when she was born.

this time i have a lot because i'll be delivering early so im sure shell be small like 1
