Flood zone
What is the best way to confirm if a home is in a flood zone? We really liked a house, which sits near a lake. The seller's agent told ours it's not in a flood zone. I've spoke to Geico, where we had our old homeowner's insurance and they determined it is. I also spoke with an insurance broker who would be able to get us a policy through a private company and she also said it falls in a flood zone.
I just looked at the listing again, and now they have added to the description that it is NOT in a flood area.
I should know better than to listen to the seller's agent without proof just not sure if I should be checking something else?

Re: Flood zone
Goto floodsmart.gov and look up the address to see if the home is actually listed in a flood zone.

Re: Flood zone
I used the FEMA search when we were house hunting: https://msc.fema.gov/portal/search
Also, when you say "in a flood zone" there are different categories. So for example, I'm flood zone X, which everyone refers to as "not in a flood zone." People refer to AE as a FZ. But, since our house is within 1,000 feet of water, we're still required to carry flood insurance. It's a minimal cost each year, but still a requirement by our mortgage company and our insurance company to carry the homeowner's policy.

Flood zone
Ok so I just checked and it looks like the back of the property falls within the range of zone A, so I would think the property will require flood insurance?
