painting staircase
We just had the carpet pulled up from our stairs and stained to match our hardwood floors. We also had new railings up- metal spokes and the hand rail is wood matching the stairs. My question is that I see a lot of stairs painted white on the side and the front (not sure what that part is called) Right now my whole staircase is the same wood color. What do you think looks better?

I *think* they're called the risers? I don't know, but I like it white better. Mine are painted white. But bear in mind they get dirty very easily, especially with my DH's giant work boots kicking them daily.

I like white better but I would go insane cleaning them so I’d probably keep them all wood.

I never even thought about how dirty white would get! I just feel like the stairs don't look finished at this point. I'll have to mull it over some more.

It does get dirty but magic eraser every few weeks and it’s like new. Use a durable white - I used semi gloss that I used on my moldings and it keeps well. 8 years later and still look great

Re: painting staircase
Benjamin Moore sells paint that doesnt scuff. It is called Scuff-X. We used it on our stairs and think it works pretty good. Cleans up easy if we get a scuff mark but honestly barely have any.
