Lake George?

Want to do a family vacation the end of next summer and DH keeps bringing up Lake George bc he has a lot of memories there when he was a kid.
A friend went to Sagamore there last summer and loved it, but her kids are younger. My boys will be 11 and 9 next summer. My older DS is really into sports.
Just want to make sure there's enough to do there. I think I went once as a young kid, but don't recall.
We'd be going with my inlaws and they would have a baby and 4 year old.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Lake George?

We LOVE Lake George. I have never been to the Sagamore. It is very pricey. Plus is is HUGE. It is like an elaborate hotel. I guess when I am on the lake, I like the cabin feel.We always stay at the Surfside. WE have stayed there since I was a kid, and they have renovated their rooms. It is very kid friendly. t has a pool, and great lake front area. I also like it because it is walking distance to town. There is so much to do in Lake George.

Lake George?

There's a lot to deo for kids their age in terms of nature/exploring/fishing/waterskiing etc
Definitely look into places that are lakefront and have a sandy beach. if you're not into the whole cottage rental thing, then The Lodges at Crest Haven are gorgeous

We love lake george too. There is plenty to do there with kids, depending on what you and your kids like. I'll echo what Diane said about location and teh Sagamore. it looks great, but its also pricey.
We stay at Marine Village. Its OK a basic motel. The main selling point of it is you're on the lake with a sandy beach, it has a pool, and its in town, so you can walk to things.
Things we've done there with at least 1 of our kids (3 & 8)
Renting a jet ski
Renting a boat, exploring and tubing behind
parasailing
go carts
going to great escape
catching live music in the park
fireworks on thursday nights
Steamboat ride on the Mini Haha

at the motel:
digging in teh sand and swimming in the lake
going to the pool
playing on the playground
taking paddle boats out
taking a kayak out

they also have tubing in the rivers around there, treetop adventure courses, a rodeo

We love it up there its very relaxing for us. You just have to temper your expectations, its not crystal blue waters of the Caribbean, and the motels in town are, well,,,, motels.

Re: Lake George?

There's a TON to do in Lake George for the kids. We have a family house up there and go most weekends in the summer. We have a 10 year old and a 2 1/2 year old, and my SIL has a 2 year old and a 3 month old and we always have plenty to do.

Feel free to FM me and I'd be happy to give you lots of ideas (we've been going up since we were kids).

As for places to stay, personally I wouldn't recommend the Sagamore with young children. It's beautiful, but very pricey and it's in Bolton, not LG Village. It's about a 15 minute drive from Lake George Village, and while it's a very nice little town, there's definitely less to do for the kids and less affordable than Lake George itself.

The Lodges at Cresthaven are very nice and located just outside of the village (you can take a trolley into the village) with its own beach, restaurant, arcade, playground, etc. It's more family-friendly than the Sagamore IMO and the lodges are AMAZING. If you're looking to be right in the village within walking distance to everything, but still on the water, Surfside or Marine Village Resort are both decent. Another one that's nice but not directly in the village is Blue Lagoon Resort.

Have fun!

WE looked into the Lodges at Cresthaven....they were so pricey. They quoted me almost $4000 for a cabin for the week. I almost fell over.

Lake George?

We've been to Lake George the last 5 years. We usually stay at The Sagamore and we love it there. Our kids are 8 and 3. It is outside of Lake George village in Bolton, but we drive into Lake George Village and spend the day there walking around and doing the various activities mentioned above. My husband also gets an educator discount bc he teaches and we've gotten free breakfast deals etc. that make it affordable. They have many activities on site as well.

We also go to Magic Forest, which is like stepping into a time warp as far as amusement parks go; it's just hilarious!
