Christening Gift

No, it isn’t one of those threads about how much to give Chat Icon .

SO is Godfather to his nephew and the christening is in September. They only do one Godparent here. He already bought a gift (some special gold coin or something). They don’t do cash here and the event is small with just immediate family and a lunch or dinner afterwards in a restaurant.

I am, of course, going with him. We have been together for over two years. Do I get a little something or just tag along with SO’s gift? If so, then what would be a good gift?

TIA

Re: Christening Gift

It may be different there than it is here. Here the godfather “usually” gives the baby a cross necklace.
If they don’t do that, maybe find out what the custom is there and do that.

Oh no, he already got a gift of a gold coin (I don’t think crosses are the gift here) or something. I’m just wondering if I should tag along on his gift or if I should get a little something from just me. KWIM? Since we aren’t married, I’m not sure what to do.

Re: Christening Gift

As a plus one to that kind of an event, I would not gift separately.

Normally I would say you go on the card with him. But, if the coin is a traditional “godfather” gift, I don’t think it would be odd to give something small separately.

Thanks. That’s what I thought, but I wasn’t sure because he is The Godfather and we aren’t married.

Re: Christening Gift

Could you ask SO's mother what the tradition is ?
I'm way out of the loop on this one.

I think I’ll just ask SO. I’m not the closest with the mom (total recluse).
