Best way to spy on my kid ...
DD is 9 and she has an ipad and gets messages on them.
Also considering getting her a phone. while i was very against this I have been dropping her off at long practices and would feel better her having a phone in case she needs us (yes I know she could just use the phone at the place but knowing she has her own makes us feel better)
I want to be able to read any messages she gets or sends out. if i can see what she does on apps that's also a plus too. i know with iphones you can just share locations so i dont really need that feature.
Anyone know of anything like this.

There isn't an app where you can read their messages. You can take the phone, lol.
However, we have an Apple Watch that is attached to my SO's son's phone and we can read his texts that way, as well as his Snapchats and Tiktok's

hmm interesting idea on using an apple watch. maybe i can get an older one and do that.
i know i can take her phone and I will. i do it now with her ipad but im afraid of her deleting anything. I know i can tell her if she does she looses it and I would know and she would probably believe me but if there was something i would love to have it! lol

Verizon has parental apps. You can ask about them in a wireless store or call and ask for help on installing them.

My opinion (flame away if you need to):
If you need to spy on your 9 year old then do not get them a phone or ipad where they can send and/or read messages.
Perhaps I am reading too much into the word spy and it was said in jest. If that is the case disregard my comment.

Re: Best way to spy on my kid ...
I do believe in being on top of what's going on in all these apps, chats, etc.
However, since your DD is only 9... how about a phone that only allows calls and no texting, etc? Maybe a starter phone.
You can try PanSpy. FYI- My kids are still young, so I haven't used it.

Best way to spy on my kid ...
My version of spying is "hand me the phone" at a moment's notice. And she has no problem doing that. She also doesn't have snapchat, tik tok, etc. (ETA she is almost 13)

Re: Best way to spy on my kid ...
Apple watch with cellular would be the best way to monitor texts.
Apple does not allow apps to monitor or log the text messages for privacy reasons. We try to do this in the corporate world all the time to log text messages and it simply isn't available.
You could possibly get another phone for imessage (blue text) but regular SMS texts would not come over. That's why the watch would be useful.

Best way to spy on my kid ...
We got our DS a phone for Christmas - he is 9. We gave it to him with a pretty strict contract that he has to follow. The main rule is that the phone is mine since I pay for it and I am allowing him to use it.
One of the other rules is no erasing things. I want him to be honest with me and I will not get mad at what I read. If I think its inappropriate, we will talk about it.
I also read his text messages freely whenever I want.
He is also not allowed any social media - including Tik Tok. If his friends send videos from Tik Tok in text messages, he is not allowed to view them since they give him access to other videos.
I am so shocked at how many parents let their young children have Tik Tok given the content that is posted on there. It is not kid friendly in the least if you actually sit down and go through it.

I tend to agree. DD is 9. She does't have a phone but recently asked to join Messenger Kids via my facebook acct. With that she can "text" her friends who have Messenger Kids through their parents facebook accts as well. I can look on her ipad if i want- but to be honest, i have no reason to. I know that at 9 years old she is texting them all nonsense. I see what she is texting them. It's about the Roblox game they play together and stupid pictures of themselves and gifs If she was older, heck yes. At her age, if i had to worry about what she was doing to the point of spying, there would be bigger issues and she'd have nothing.

Re: Best way to spy on my kid ...
I know with Verizon you can view all texts online (even if they were deleted from the phone). It def works with iphone. You just have to make a separate login on myverizon for each phone number.
I don't consider monitoring your kids messages "spying". I think it's completely normal to keep track of what they are doing, who they are talking to and what's being said. IDK, it's just my opinion but in this day and age, it's kind of irresponsible to just give a kid a phone and assume they don't need any sort of supervision. You're opening them up to an entire world of people. There has to be some sort of watchful eye.
I read an article written by someone who deals with online predators. All it takes is saying you're an 11 yr old girl on social media (or in the chat room of popular online games) and the unsolicited messages from older men start coming in. I wish I could find the article to link it. Predators start out friendly, with normal conversation and once a child starts to trust them, they start turning the conversation towards more sexual things.

When you log into your Verizon account, you can see the numbers texted yes. You cannot read the actual texts and what they said. I think that is what the OP was looking for.

You can download Kid Messenger. It allows your child to message and call their friends and you get a copy of all of their texts. You also have to approve every contact for your child.

Nel, this is what my dd is doing too. Texting friends on the ipad and playing roblox. They also face time. I know all of the kids she is texting. They are her friends. She knows I randomly will ask to see the ipad. We have discussed tick tock and did not download it. Also youtube kids does not let you on under 13 so that is locked down for my kids too. We also set the iPad so it turns off by 8:30 pm and it must be brought to my room so it does not tempt her to text at bedtime. I will say her friends text until the second she has hand over the ipad and then they get a message saying good night DD had to go to sleep from us.

Yeah TikTok is a BIG BIG no from us to. No way. Luckily she hasn't fought me on that yet.

Re: Best way to spy on my kid ...
Instead of quoting everyone Ill just do one summary.
Can you get the gizmo without having Verizon? I do not have Verizon as a carrier and I dont plan on switching to them
I trust my 9 year old as much as you can trust a 9 year old.
Maybe it is just the kids we run into but 9 year olds I know at least girls arent just talking about Roblox my DD doesnt even do roblox.
i have heard from parents who have let their child have kid messenger and the drama that occurs starts is at this age.
She is on cheer and some of the girls are a couple years older and girls well are girls.
If something is said not nice I rather know exactly what happened rather than trying to get stories that may not be true.
I can do random checks and I do that now but again that doesn't stop my DD from deleting something not saying she would but again she is 9 and she is not perfect and I know a child is going to be a child and try to keep themselves out of trouble or a friend out of trouble.
I am one of those parents that allow my DD to have tiktok but its locked down no one can see it (much to her protest). She is only allowed to watch videos of friends or people i have approved to follow. I monitor it and would be nice if i could just get alerts when she does something on it. If that actually existed which is why I asked.
She also knows not to talk to anyone online that is not her friend and she doesnt even talk anyone through any app and again if she did I would know when I spot check her phone. Her school did hold an assembly about online predators and how anything you post stays online etc and she came back and told me all about it and what she cant do etc.
It would just be nice to have one app if it existed that just monitored what is going on.
i did google and found somethings but based on a comment here makes me think with apple it would not be possible

I don’t know, one time my neighbor was on his iPads and he was able to see her text message from her iPhone coming across the iPad. That’s how they caught her planning to sneak out with her boyfriend, they were all connected on the cloud or something lol

Best way to spy on my kid ...
The best way I have found is to set up an Ipad (we have an old one) with all the apps she uses and we can see everything she does, including texts, messages, photos etc.
And just to reference a few other posters who said that if they need to monitor that much, there is a problem, for us, it is not so much monitoring what my daughter does. It is monitoring what everyone else does. People are mean, kids are mean so I'd rather see what is going on then not knowing about it and it becoming an issue in the future.

Yup and this is how someone I know caught his wife cheating on him. The messages that went to her phone also went to the ipad that day

Best way to spy on my kid ...
My dd has Kids Messenger on her ipad. I created her account through my facebook messenger, and I have access to all her messages. Also I have to approve any of the contacts. And theres a way to set it to "sleep mode" thru my parent controls on my phone, so I can limit how much she uses it.
