Burial/Funeral Costs?
Does anyone know approximately how much it costs to have a funeral and burial?

Re: Burial/Funeral Costs?
There are really a ton of variables. I look at funeral service invoices as part of my job. The lowest I have seen was $7K and that was for one wake and cremation and I've seen them as high as $16K. On average I would say $12-$14K

Burial/Funeral Costs?
As another poster said, there's a ton of variables. My grandmother passed away a few years ago and my grandfather would not skimp on anything. He chose a beautiful coffin and since my grandma did not want to be buried in the ground, she is "buried" in a wall of the cemetery. I don't remember exactly the cost but I want to say between $16k and 18K? Below 20K, but again, it could've been done for less, but no matter what, it's still not cheap. Sorry for your loss.

Burial/Funeral Costs?
We paid 8k for 1.5 days of viewing and another 5k for the plot. Headstone was extra.

Re: Burial/Funeral Costs?
Sorry for your loss. I've had to pay for 2 in the past 2 yrs. Both were around 22k with the plot. No headstone. Not even an expensive casket or anything. It was the third cheapest, with the cheapest practically being a pine box. So the one we went with was the first that looked like a decent casket but def not fancy. 1 day of viewing (afternoon and night). Then the burial the following morning. No flowers or anything. The cheapest package of service cards.
I don't understand how we paid so much. The prices I'm seeing here are a lot cheaper. Everything was pretty much a set fee with the casket and number of services being the biggest variable.

I have to be very off with my numbers then. Because I know the burial in the wall was a hell of a lot more than a plot in the ground, we had a really fancy coffin and 2 full days of viewing. So , sorry OP for not being that much help but regardless it's expensive.

Re: Burial/Funeral Costs?
Thanks everyone. I should have clarified, no one has passed. I'm trying to do family planning for my parents and for myself.
I want to make sure that there is either some money set aside or a small insurance policy to pay for these expenses. I just didn't know how much was needed.
I appreciate the responses. They were an eye opener.

Not sure if it's all places but the cemetary we used they charge less if you buy the plot before the person is deceased. I think it was 1-2k less.

Burial/Funeral Costs?
My father works in a funeral home and they actually rent caskets. Not sure if they do that here, he’s in FL.

No, NY doesn’t do that. It’s the law. Funeral director said different states have different laws. If someone is cremated in NY, casket must go with the body. Not the case in Florida, hence the rental, which saves a huge amount on expenses.

Burial/Funeral Costs?
When we buried my grandma in 2013 it was about $15k and we had the plot already as she was buried with my grandpa. 1 day of viewings and funeral the next day.

Re: Burial/Funeral Costs?
i'm in socal. SO is pre-paying for his ill, elderly mother. if i remember all the numbers correctly: * a little less than $4k for the plot * a little over $9k for the viewing, casket, flowers, small lunch, and all that goes with the actual burial
no religious service. all done at forest lawn.
