Gloves

can someone explain gloves to me? Not being snarky just trying to understand what I'm missing.
I'm at the Cheesecake Factory waiting on line for curbside.
I'm watching a guy who is running orders to cars, take cash from people, hand them change, then go grab the door handle to run back inside all with dirty gloves on. Now the next guy comes and grabs the dirty door handle with his gloves and so on.
Why are we wearing gloves? What is it protecting?
Is there a more correct way to be doing it then this?

Yes but all I can think is he is touching all kinds of filth then touching my bag to hand to me.
It would be better if they hand samitized between customers and used bare hands

I'm with you on that. I won't wear gloves because of that. People think they are safe if they wear gloves....unless they put on a new pair every single time they touch something, they are useless.

It only protects the person wearing them until they throw them away.

If they were only touching cash I’d say it’s not a huge deal. I took the food managers course given by the Dept of Health and they actually said money doesn’t transfer germs like everyone insists it does. They get tons of calls weekly (prior to the covid crisis even) about people in delis, bakeries, etc handling money then touching their food. Crazy as it sounds, they said this is actually not a problem. Now the door handle touching is an issue and with the current situation they really should be AT MINIMUM changing gloves after each customer and ideally washing hands after removing each set of gloves. I doubt that is happening.

The material on gloves has been known to keep bacteria, etc. for longer. The person is probably doing it for themselves or the company is making them do it to make the customer feel better.

I agree hand washing is better, but this employee probably doesn’t have the time to do it. But you do have the time to sanitize after you get home and unpack all the food.

I think it's more to protect him, so when he takes his gloves off to touch his own phone, keys, steering wheel, etc, he can feel like his hands are clean.

Interesting about the money. I feel like it's ingrained in us as kids that money is the dirtiest thing on the planet.
I read an article about wearing gloves and it pretty much said it's not necessary at all for the general public when they are out.
When doctors and nurses wear gloves they wear them for one patient...to protect the patient from any germs on their hands during the exam...and vice versa. Then they throw out the gloves, wash their hands, and wear new gloves for the next patient.
If they were to wear the same pair of gloves all day, it wouldn't do any good to protect the patients or themselves.
They are meant to be worn for a short period of time and changed out frequently .
You wearing them to the supermarket and touching everything from the door, to the cart, to the grocieries, to your wallet isn't any better than bare handing it and washing immediately after.
And the article also stated what someone said here...gloves can possibly spread the virus even more than bare hands because it may stick to the material of the gloves and transfer more easily than it does on bare hands.
