People with pools: realistic cost of masonry?
We have progressed from purchasing an inflatable Intex for the backyard this summer to considering a semi-inground pool. I definitely don't have the cash flow right now to do a whole paver patio and anything fancy but I was wondering if anyone knows what it would run to put stonework covering the outside of the pool so you don't have to look at the outside aluminum side of the pool? So basically just to cover the side and some steps. I know it can vary greatly but I'm just trying to get an idea. The pool would be 12' x 20'.
Also, if you have a recommendation for a mason I could call for a quote, that would be great too. Thanks!

I'm not sure my quotes would help because it's for a paver patio with a small retaining wall and steps. Yours sounds like it would be a lot more wall and a lot less concrete base, so I don't know if that would change the pricing. But, if it helps at all, we got a bunch of estimates that averaged $19-$24 per square foot installed. Every masonry company that came by was in that price range. Where are you located? I have a couple companies that I can recommend, but I'm out in eastern Suffolk so I don't know if that will be helpful.

Thanks! I'll take recommendations. I'm in Suffolk too. I was looking at some of the packages some of the pool companies are offering and wondering if they are any good. I would love to just do a one and done deal. I hate pricing things out.

I hear ya. Getting estimates has to be the worst thing ever. I could write a novel on the crap I've had to deal with in the past few years. I'll PM you who I used and my second choice

I have an in-ground pool. I am not going to lie, but the brick work cast just as much as the pool itself. We also had it set in cement which can brick the cost up.

I would imagine what you are looking to do would cost much more than a patio.

I have a semi and depending on the way your property is sloped, it may not work well with brick.
We had to do a deck around ours.
To be considered a semi (meaning it wont' raise your taxes like an inground) the pool can be no more than 24 inches in the ground.
So a lot of the pool walls are exposed and our staircase has 5 steps going up to the deck- pavers wouldn't have worked.

Sure! Just something to consider and discuss with your pool installer/builder.

In my previous house, we did a big deck around the semi in ground pool. It cost more than the pool (there are pics in an album). The pool was $10k, the deck was $14k. (The deck was Evergreen (?) -similar to Trex)
