Re: Lowering our immune systems?
In the very beginning of this, before we were really home, I ended up with a stomach bug and I was wondering how I could have possibly gotten that and one of my doctor friends told me that by using hand santizer and basically washing my hands like a crazy person I probably stripped off all of the good bacteria that would normally fight that stuff off. I have slowed down the use of hand santizer to in my car only.

They also make my stomach worse because i have small intestinal bacteria overgrowth...so adding qny bacteria back in flares my intestinal issues.
Have u tried saccharomyces boulardii? It’s a soil probiotic that can greatly help sibo.
No, i will look into it though! Thanks!

I'd like to think that humans as a whole aren't so fragile that a few months without getting germs means we lose our entire immune system.
Yes, over the long term, we need to get germs on a regular basis to stay healthy. "They" have been telling us for years to go easy on the hand sanitizer and sprays.
Exactly what I was going to say

Re: Lowering our immune systems?
I'm a huge advocate for boosting your immune system naturally. Our bodies are really not that fragile. I take elderberry regularly. I boost my vitamin C and D if I feel like I'm coming down with something. We try to get out for fresh air very regularly. We wear shoes in the house, I have dogs that go in and out. I usually say I'm not a germaphobe at all, but my youngest kid just touched the sponge in the kitchen sink and then licked his finger
I'm disgusted and hoping he doesn't get 'the runs'

Lowering our immune systems?
I’m one of those people with the ****** immune systems That all catch everything. I told my dr after I get over this virus we really need to figure out how to boost my immune system. I take vitamins. I’m not hyper vigilant with cleaning, I wash my hands before I eat and after I use the bathroom. Right now My house is spotless and smells Like bleach and Lysol. I have been hyper vigilant and still got the virus. Everyone else in my house is fine.

Oh no - I hope you get well fast!
Have you tried pro & prebiotics? Gut health is connected to overall immune health. It could help a lot.
I get sick fairly easily but only since I started with fibromyalgia. And mostly from little kids! If DH is sick, I can avoid catching it by cleaning more, using Paper towels for hand drying and moving into the guest room. Also in general, I always wash my hands when I come home from anywhere and try to never touch my face out in public. But with little kids, all the hugs and kisses with snotty noses, it’s hard to not catch something from them lol We don’t have kids so it’s only when I spend a lot of time with my little nieces. It’s like clockwork. I see them.. 2-3 days later it starts.

Sorry you are sick and I do hope you feel better soon.
My immune system is total crap. I fee like if you have a cold and just look at me, I’m sick. Lol. But seriously, I think it’s due to all the steroids I had to take for my asthma, from my hospital visits or when I was sick as a child. There are so many times I am sick and my DH & DS are walking around like nothing.
Anyway, do you exercise or active? I’m not talking about to lose weight or diet but just as part of your routine. I notice when I regularly exercise, I don’t get sick. I’m also not active at work since I sit a desk all day. I used to workout a few times a week several years ago, I hardly ever got sick. Then I stopped, and I would get sick a lot more during the flu season. I started exercising regularly again last year and I feel like my immune system is better. For me I feel like it’s an extra boost for my system.

I have no tips on boosting your immune system because I’m one of those people that just has a good one (knock on wood). I do nothing to boost it, but I do stay away from extremely processed foods. I think it’s genetic. My mom said she read something about it having to do with blood type, but my mom doesn’t get her news from reliable sources all the time.

I found that since I started exercising and lost a huge amount of weight that I very rarely get sick. Before I would have sinus infection/cold/etc at least 6x a year and they would last for a month. Now, in the past 3 years that I've lived a healthier lifestyle I have had less than 3. *knock on wood* And if I get something the duration/severity is less.
Before I changed and someone said this to me I always called bullsh1t on it. Obesity denial I guess. But in practice I found it 100% accurate.

My husband has found the same since his weight loss and completely changing his diet. There's definitely something to it . I've even read that with this virus, people who are considered obese are considered one of the higher risk groups for complications
