Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
I’m done, too.
I hate the masks. HATE them. I can’t breathe and it makes my anxiety worse.
I freaked out a week ago and had a major crying session. Now, I am in that DGAF attitude.
I lost a few contracts and I got one back because I told off the director. I’m not sure how that happened really, but I’ll take it.
I’m a teacher at university. I’m sick of Zoom. But I make it work and the students are happy because they have no social interaction and are more involved than ever. One uni I work for said you don’t have to go on Zoom and you can just use Moodle (kind of like google classroom), but I didn’t want to do that. I want to make sure my students are getting the best education they can at this time. They are all very happy.

i had my breakdown on Monday and I plan on writing the superintendent.
The lack of effort being put by some teachers is shameful. Yep I am saying it shameful.
Uploading documents for kids and parents to learn on their own is NOT Ok!!
There are districts out there hosting classes or minimally doing prerecorded lessons! have teachers available whenever needed.
My DS teacher isnt even making us hand in the work. I can just say its done and they wold have no clue.
Not ok at all. they are getting paid and some good money they should be doing their job.
i should not be expected to teach my children esp. when I am still working full time
yes I know teachers are parents too but there is no reason why a teacher cant minimally prerecord lessons at some point of the day to upload for kids to watch the next day to go with the lesson.
I find it also unfair that some teachers/school districts are actually putting in effort and others are not.
Not fair to the teachers that they are dong all this work and other teachers are barely doing anything and not fair to students and parents!!
It is most likely the school's district decision and the teachers' hands are tied.
I teach in a private school in NYC, and I am on Zoom 3-4 times a day with my class and then 1-2 more times a day with smaller groups of students.
When I talk to my friends who teach on LI, almost all of them received very strongly worded emails that any type of "live" lesson is strictly prohibited because of the potential security issues with programs like Zoom.
When it comes to teachers pre-recording lessons for their students, that also usually isn't allowed by the district. A lot of the curriculum programs that schools use have not given permission for their programs and lessons to be put online, so then you get into copyright issues if you are using material from a copyrighted program.
Before you email the superintendent about the "shameful" "lack of effort" by the teachers, I would email to inquire what the district's expectations of their teachers are. Because more likely than not, they are just following what was put into place for them by the district and don't have a choice.
I already emailed asking what the plan was weeks ago becuase I told them at this rate I will hold my son back because he will not be ready to move on. What was the response they gave me a sub teacher to work one on one when needed. While that teacher as been a god send and I appreciate him so much its still bulllshit and I love that the sub can do it what the hellll is my sons teacher doing. Oh i know posting stupid messages online celebrating her kids bday and posting worksheets. Glad she is gets to do things during the day while she is supposed to be working and I am over here working FT and doing her job and teaching my kid
My district uses google classroom they are allowed to use google meet thats how we meet with the sub. my son get extra help in math that teacher has been posting her self going over the lesson and then has the kids do their math sheet and hand them.
My district has 5 elementary schools 1 middle school and 1 high school and from what I hear and see online some teachers put effort in and others dont..
If there is district wide rules/plans then they should be communicating that to parents it should not take parents to have to write to ask for it.
As someone else said I am letting them use excuses that they are parents too so i get live might not work but why am I they have a point. I have to join and host meetings thought out my day I cant use the excuse that I am a parent so I cant work. so why should they if they want to use that excuse then fine they shouldn't be getting paid. There should be no excuse why they can do nothing and its ok for them but not other teachers other professions!
Has your child's teacher actually said that they are a parent and therefore cannot go live?
No cause I havent bother to ask them.
my point is why am I even allowing myself to make excuses that they are parents which is why they may not be able to do something, when in reality I am also a parent that is working and 100% expected to do my job and still make sure my kids are doing their work. why should teachers be getting a pass to not be expected to do the same?
i just wrote to the superintendent and I just wrote 2 lines asking him what the policy is and that I do have questions and concerns but will wait till I hear back from him before expressing them.
I'll see what he has to say before I express everything I have to say.

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
I'm done with the school work. My kids do what they can and that's it. I actually lost my voice from yelling , For 4 days I had to explain on all my phone calls and zoom meetings why I have no voice. I don't know what's worse, people thinking I caught a terrible case of Rona or people knowing I have been yelling at my kids so much that I lost my f&*king voice. I refuse to fight about it anymore. This is not good for our kids. The teachers will have to get them back on track when school starts again. I'm not going to traumatize them any further by fighting about this mindless busy work. Homeschooling would be easier. We have hours of "busy work" for our kindergartner, just so these teachers can feel like they are earning their salaries. I've tried to do it quick and even when they cooperate, it is taking 4 hours. When they don't cooperate, it's more like all damn day. I'm tired of making sure they have all this shit turned in. It would be easier to make my own plans. These are some recommendations:
There is no reason I should have to sit for 4 hours (at a minimum) with my kid that is 6 yrs old. If we don't do it, the teachers will think we're just not doing anything. I'm at a loss. If this continues into next year, we are 100% moving out of NYS. I'm not paying these exorbitant taxes to be in a 'good district' for this ********.

Please don't let this negatively impact your opinion of teachers.
We are all following the directives of our administration.

The district I work in wants all learning to be done in an asynchronous fashion due to equity issues. We can not tell students that we are having a "Google Hangout" at 10 am on Monday and everyone must be there. This district said that there are too many factors to take into consideration like number of computers per household, bandwith of internet, the fact that many students are now responsible for babysitting/teaching their younger siblings. Because of this, I film all of my lessons over the weekend. I post everything on Monday so students can work at their own pace. Everyone is due on Sunday evening.
I will say I am not 100% pleased with the "teaching" being done by my Kindergartner's teacher. I know she is doing the best she can as she is not super tech savvy, but sending out a daily to do list and one 30 minute google meet up I do not feel like is sufficient. Our district has asked for feedback and I am providing them with my honest opinion on how I think they can make improvements, specifically for the younger kids.
With that said, my son has been playing video games all morning, while I do work.

My DS' kindergarten teacher is luckily giving an age appropriate amount of work. Most days it take 45 minutes or so.

you see I am honestly ok with that and can see that it could be hard going live for all the reasons listed but at least you are prerecording lessons I will take that!! but we are getting nothing like that and to me that's unacceptable.
And again I will be quite frank and honest. IMO in this day and age technology is everything and teachers should be able to handle basic technology skills in the world we live in and should be required to learn basic things!!
Also by now there is no excuse why step by step instructions have not be provided to teachers and students/parents on how to do things.
What amazes me more that I cant believe no one within a district would think of this themselves!

This was exactly my reaction when we got the call from the district just now that the Dictator of NY has closed the schools for the rest of the year. No joke

I can’t do this anymore!!!
I am in no way pleased with how my district is handling the remote Ed. Honestly, if we don’t open in September I’ll likely pull her enrollment and homeschool until they reopen-no reason for them to receive funding for my kid based on the extreme lack of effort being put forward. And I am a teacher (currently on my second year off though).

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
Vent away. It's Groundhog's Day in the worst way. I am teaching live, daily for my elementary kids. The amount of time I put into planning my live lessons and putting daily assignments up while trying to learn new digital platforms, while helping my own 2 children navigate their distance learning is beyond overwhelming.
My work days are legit 12-13 hours. Parents email all times of the day, there's no disconnect between home and school. I miss my class terribly and have tremendous sadness about the whole thing. On top of being afraid of the virus. I can't sleep until at least 1 am and I toss and turn all night. My daughter is having behavior and sleeping issues like she's never had. It's just terrible all the way around. I keep saying at least we have our health but damn this is hard...
