And the right to CHOSE is the thing.
Nobody can force you to leave your house if you so chose- that is your right. You have the right to weigh the risk vs. reward for your family.
But I should have that same right.
If I wanted to smoke, I know the risks. But I still have the right to do it.
If I want to drink booze to excess, eat myself to morbid obesity, drive without a seat belt, I, as an adult can choose those risks.
People skydive- it's risky! But they chose it as an adult.
That is what I am not understanding.
We have a lot of people at my job who would be willing to go work in the office tomorrow. We have a lot who would not be comfortable. Why can't we make that choice for ourselves?

I mentioned before that I agree we need to start opening, your examples are not comparing the same thing. Everything you listed does not effect anyone else. So yes to eat, drink, do risky things is your right. No one is going to get hurt by you doing those things. The only exception is smoking and you can not do that almost anywhere anymore. Why because people were saying it was causing them harm. Same with the virus. If you are not following the rules (like wearing your mask) you are putting others at risk.

I agree we should have to be careful, protect others, distance and wear masks.
I am not saying to go out with reckless abandon.
I am saying that if small businesses are given the right to open up with the same precautions as the "essential " stores open now, we should have the right to go there.
And those who are still nervous should have the right not to and to stay home.
I'm not advocating being reckless. All precautions should remain but more needs to open up

I agree and have felt this way from day one.
I know we needed to take precautions but at some point we need to start opening.

FTR I'm not working but still getting paid from my employer. But I see the lines growing at food banks and soup kitchens because people don't have money to buy food. Something needs to give.

ETS: I see these long lines at Target, Wal-Mart, Costco etc. If we opened more stores customers can disperse to those other stores making the big box stores less crowded. And people would be back to work.
Wouldn't that make sense?

You are 100% correct, IMO. We can't stay like this. We have to be able to revitalize ourselves. I will say both my DH and I are still earning our incomes but I truly feel for small business owners and anyone who has lost their income in this situation. It literally makes my stomach churn to think of the stress people are under. I think people need to make their own decisions while being smart with social distancing.

FYI. I dont know if anyone saw this reported today, but 15 days after reopening their state, Georgia hospitalizations are at an all time low.

I think we need to highlight this.
You won't hear much about this in the news....

It's almost as if the media was sitting there rubbing their hands together just waiting and almost HOPING that the numbers would spike in Georgia so they could point their fingers and say TOLD YOU SO! We must stay locked down FOREVER!

And now... crickets....

I agree. If states reopen and cases don't spike, Cuomo won't have any excuses to keep us like this indefinitely.
