Irrelevant unless there's some childcare plan they're hiding.
i get that but I dont care at this point. they have to start opening with phase 1 child care or no child care! but when it comes down to it there are childcare places currently opened!
But what can they reopen if people can't work because they're with their kids?
they are opening manufacturing and constriction and retail pickup or curbside but daycares are open or can be now as far as I am aware.
I dont know I pay for daycare normally so if i had to go in i would be putting them in daycare.
is the expectation that free childcare is needed?
I get confused with statements of what are we supposed to do with kids
My DD's daycare is closed and just pushed the re-opening back again. They could compete with Cuomo for best carrot dangler.
I actually do have to go back into the office in the next few weeks and am totally fine with sending her back but I can't do that if they aren't open.
I am very happy that we are close to re-opening, just annoyed with her daycare
Also- with school age kids who aren't in day care. What are you supposed to do with your say, 8 year old, when you have to go back to work and schools are closed
I enrolled my daughter into a summer camp. If camp is closed and my job is open they know that its going to be hard for us to go into the office without childcare. There are a few of us in our department that have school age children so I'm hoping they will work with us.

That is what will probably happen at my office too. We've always been a very flexible place for working parents though... so I cant' imagine us not working with people through this.

instead of quoting what does everyone when school is over for the day? does everyone really work the same hours as their kids school?
my kids go to scope. SCOPE is opened by me if needed right now.
summer I would have to assume camps would be opening or some kind of daycare would be.
For phase 1 They don't expect everyone to be back at work anyway so they have time to open.
so they still have time to open daycares/camps
My DD's pre-k is part of a daycare that's open late.
She'll go to after care next year in K.
For summer, there are a few camps that have extended hours.

My kids go to aftercare on days that both DH and I are working. They also go to camps during the summer (DS 1 does sports camps and DS 2 does daycamp on days DH works).
It's a large expense though to add on full day daycare for the month of June when kids are supposed to be in school.

Yes this is not an issue for me as I have the luxury of a SAHD. Thank God for that. But just thinking ahead for everyone else because most people I know do not have that luxury.. My team has a bunch of working moms on it and they are already worrying about what they will do when the offices reopen. I guess, one day at a time at this point!
which i get something has to be open for working parents but when i see people make comments i take it sometimes they dont pay for any kind of care now which I guess I shouldnt but one would think he has to open more camps/daycares but again phase 1 is not meant for everyone to go back to work. they actually expect most people to continue to work from home I think at least to phase 3

That's awesome to have that flexibility. Prior to all of this, I have been asking my supervisor for a while now if there's any way possible to work from home a few days a week for a while and always got push-back. I'm hoping now that they've seen that we can do it, they will be more open to it.

we are at 5/7 to reopen!!
I’m not going back to my office until I have camp or school in sept. My company completely understands and we’ve all been working from home as it is so that won’t change.
I know a bunch of companies that are doing the same. Even when they open the entire staff can’t rush back in. There are still distancing that needs to be done. My company said they will open with staff alternating weeks.

I feel like now that companies have been doing the work from home thing for so long- and look, they didn't fall apart!- they will hopefully see that it's ok to be flexible like this. Personally, my feelings are, if you do your job and do it well- i don't give a crap where you do it from. But there are people who feel otherwise and it's annoying to be honest. I always said you need to treat employees like adults- as long as they act like them. It goes a long way for employee loyalty and retention.

Re: we are at 5/7 to reopen!!
so i posted this before i watched the briefing till the end (should have done that first lol)
and the fact that school is closed and daycares are not all open were brought up.
Cuomo did say till the end of the academic school year you will not be able to open everything up however those that are opening those regions will need to have a plan for daycare for those workers.
So I am getting out of that camps/daycare will be open once we hit phase 3 or we can't be in phase 3

The daycare I use is taking school aged kids. This is going to cost me fortune though. Would be almost $600/week for both kids. My kids are 5 and 7

We still have a fairly high hospitalization census. My hospital is still in the 190s ish for covid + on the daily we admit anywhere between 4-6 new positives sometimes much more sometimes less. We see 12-15 people in the ER daily with covid symptoms again sometimes more sometimes less. The less people take precautions the longer this will continue because people are still continuing to get sick. I am pretty confident that of precautions are taken we can get these numbers down. I believe the new count for yesterday of positive cases was 209 for Suffolk which is low compared to what it was but Nassau was around 115 I believe so there is a difference. Hopefully the numbers continue on a downward trend and we move towards reopening
