Any LI non-essential business owners here?
Is there somewhere to submit your reopening plan to your region? I can’t find any concrete info on this and I’m not sure if businesses in my area are actually doing this or are going to do this. The local car wash, card store and Amazing Savings just opened back up today. I understand all the reasons, my fellow business owners, I’m just as eager. And I’m sure as this 5/15 date comes nearer, this will be the growing trend. Just want to have my ducks in a row so to speak when it is go time.

This is where you apply to try and be deemed essential.
We did this (along with all other dog groomers) and we all received the same “only medically necessary with vet note” reply. And groomers opened anyway. Nobody has gotten closed down or fined YET. And they are poaching the customers of shops who are following the shut down. They are deciding what is medically necessary and not getting vet notes and nothing is happening to them.
Anyway... yea. That’s what you fill out. It takes some time. There are codes you have to look up (on the site) but you’ll figure it out

Interesting! Thanks and Good Luck !
Edited to add: I don’t think they are looking to be classified essential. I think the non essentials want to submit their reopening plans on how they can social distance etc. or how essential they non essentially are. Gosh, this is so confusing Yikes, now I’m reading it again - and that’s what you sent. I’m sorry, my brain is fried. I need to read it better

my friend owns a dog grooming business and i thought it was ridiculous they couldn't stay opened. not like you need to have tons of people coming in.
i will say though I am confused i was watching pix11 news one morning and they had someone on from a dog grooming place and how they changed it to be more social distancing like drop off outside the call you to pick up etc.
i am sitting there thinking she just went on TV advertising you are open and i thought they there weren't allowed too
people are def. doing what they want or think they are allowed to.
I could have sworn today Cuomo announce come Friday landscaping would be open and yet i have seen plenty of landscapers out and my parents lawn has been being cut (we canceled our last years cause DH said he just wanted to do it!! )

Maybe they were talking to a groomer in NJ? It’s essential there as of last week or 2 weeks ago (the week are all a blur at this point)
This is what we, and Every groomer in NY state received back when writing in to be able to reopen - giving updates on new safety protocols.
Dear Business Owner: Thank you for seeking designation as an “essential business” under the revised New York State Executive Order 202.6 with respect to your business function of pet grooming. Based on the information you have provided, that business function is an essential business, but only to the extent that the pet grooming is medically necessary. However, your business has been designated as essential solely with respect to those employees that must be present at the business location in support of essential business activities. No other employees/personnel shall be permitted to work from your business’s location. Any other business activities being completed at your location that are not essential are still subject to the revised Executive Order 202.6. Please continue to comply with all other Executive Orders and recommendations from the New York State Department of Health and please consider reducing your in-person workforce to the extent practicable. Sites that cannot maintain distance and safety best practices must close and enforcement will be provided by the state in coordination with the city/local governments.
So some groomers decided to take it upon themselves to dictate what is medically necessary. Shedding dogs w owners who have allergies need to be groomed out of medical necessity as a point. So with that, they updated their reply That now we need a “note from a licensed vet” stating the dog needs grooming because it’s medically needed.
It’s become a bad joke at this point. But they are leaving us no other option. We are still closed right now, waiting on some local Officials To get back to us on next steps but soon enough .. notes = grooms

Re: Any LI non-essential business owners here?
I have a groomer that I liked on Facebook awhile back because my friend invited me to (she's a friend of the owner). This is what they posted about 2 weeks ago....
Hi all, for everyone who was asking about when our grooming services would be available, we finally received word today from the dept of health about the application we put in to be deemed essential as groomers, while we have already been open for boarding/daycare/rescue/rehabilitation, we are now officially allowed to do grooming services that are deemed “necessary” this includes: matted coats, flea/tick infestations, allergy dermatitis (medicated baths to ease the symptoms of seasonal allergies), hot spot induced skin issues that require medicated baths, dogs that their owners are allergic to & require clipping/bathing to limit the spread of dander, nail clippings, anal gland expressing, and any other grooming that is affecting the health or well being of the pet. Our phone # xxxx . Again this is info we received TODAY (like 10 mins ago lol) this isn’t to say things won’t change again & we could be forced to cease grooming in the future, but as of now we can groom your pets if it’s not for aesthetic reasons. Any questions feel free to call us, but I’m elated as I know how many pets have been suffering waiting for the ban to be lifted.

The groomery?
They got the same email we did and every other place did and they chose to state these things are medically necessary.
Like I said, places are doing what they want nobody has gotten fined yet. I truly don’t care what anyone does as long as they groom their own clients. Don’t go taking other peoples clients while they obey the rules. It’s ultra slimy. Like ultra ultra slimy. We may be competitors , but we are all in the same profession. There are some thing you don’t do. On a regular basis, it’s one thing. During a shut down, not following the rules - totally different.

That's terrible! What a scumbag thing to do. I know you're following the rules, but you may have to say screw it and reopen sooner rather than later. Waiting for an official green light that never comes may cause you to lose your clients to these asssholes. I mean it's dog grooming, why couldn't you stay open? If any business can deal with humans very minimally it's dog grooming. Electronic payments, pick up and drop off in the parking lot. Customers can wait in their cars while you groom their pets. It's ridiculous.

Spoke to town assemblyman today after waiting a week for a call back. He said they contacted cuomos office and let them know what’s going on. He said that pet Grooming. Is on their agenda to go over. So I’m hoping something happens. I asked him how it was that NYC is still grooming , told him about the article listed here, and he said they are not essential and shouldn’t be but NYC HAs so much going on, the police aren’t enforcing it and that’s how they get away with it.
Nassau county has a special task force they have made just for businesses who open before its ok. They are making their way around through complaints
It’s all a disaster. But hopefully king cuomo will hear what we are saying and start getting everyone back to work

Do you know where you can find info on that task force team? And do you know anything about submitting a reopening plan prior to reopening? How on Earth would they keep up with that when they can’t even keep up with UI?

Because there is money in Fines
I don’t know much about the task force. A friend is a nassau police officer and he is the one who said the regular police will just go in and ask you to shut down. The task force is heavily fining and closing / suspending business licenses to those who aren’t complying. It’s a real mess
