Allergies - Kids

So we had a great weekend outside and today, my 8 year old's nose is running non stop and his eyes look terrible. He woke up in the middle of the night and I gave him Benadryl so he could get some relief.

I had been giving him Allegra earlier in the season but had stopped (since i had forgotten). I know it's not as effective if you start after the symptoms start.

What do you give your kids for allergies?

My boys are still on allergy medicine bc it's been pretty bad. I give Xyzal every morning. Seems to work and then after playing outside make sure they wash their hands to get off any pollen.

This is what I do with my DS. I also wash his face and have him change his clothes. I also use a roller bottle with lavender, lemon, and peppermint EOs, mixed with almond oil, this helps him breath better. He also drinks nettle tea with local raw honey throughout the day. If it gets pretty bad I give him Triple Allergy Defense from Dr Nenninger. This yr we tried chiropractic adjustments, he recommended D-Hist Jr which my son was supposed to take daily, and he also suggested to be dairy and gluten free during the time my son’s allergies last. I gotta say I really thought being DF and GF was gonna be hard but it’s been pretty easy, there are tons of tasty alternatives out there for pretty much everything. He recommended to go DF and GF to help with inflammation in the body while it’s dealing with seasonal allergies. I’ve def seen a difference.

My son has definitely been having issues longer this season. He was on daily Zyrtec and his asthma has been bothering him so we had to put him back on the daily steroid.

Thanks! He washes his hands when he comes in and showered at the end of the day but went back out to scooter. I'm going to continue with the Allegra for now (with Benadryl at night if needed) and maybe switch to the Xyzal if it doesn't improve.

wasn’t this recalled? I think the brand is entirely off the market.

I think you're thinking of zantac being pulled off the market.

Allegra or Claritan both worked well with my son. His eyes would get so swollen and Zaditor eye drops would help with that. Saline nose spray clears out the allergen after coming in for the day. His were so bad that at one point, he needed to go on RX Singulair, which is a blocker. This medicine works best when taken before allergy season, not after the symptoms start, but the others, over the counter, they should work as soon as you use them. For my son, it's oak trees, the brown squiggly pollen that he is highly allergic too and he does need to stay indoors when they are really blooming and dropping those. Wash face, change clothes and rub a washcloth over his hair when he comes in. Sounds crazy to have to do all this, but if he is suffering, it will help. Then when his allergen is done for the season, it will all lighten up.

Thanks - I will get some Zatidor. I have used it before as well.

I’m on Singulair for my allergies/asthma. Thankfully he’s not having issues breathing it’s stuffy nose and itchy eyes right now.

He’s been outside a decent amount but I guess what was out this weekend was rough. And he went out last night to ride a scooter that our neighbor gave him after his shower so I’m sure that made it worse. He looked so bad today his brother even felt bad for him. Thankfully he looked worse than he felt.
