Re: separation anxiety

My dogs did this too (mostly the male). It was tough. Even now he follows me around no matter what I do and if I do not "entertain" him he barks alot.

That is why I got my girl dog, to play with him and keep him company. Sometimes she just could care less though...

How old is the pup? What I do is keep the windows shut and the tv on, always. My dog barks when he hears nosies so the TV drowns a lot of it out.

What kind of dog is it?

Re: separation anxiety

Bailey does the same thing. He is 2 and a half and is finally getting used to the idea that I leave him and come back. I would come home and he literally would be shaking because he was so nervous.

I took him to dog training and we did techniques where I would make him stay and walk further and further away, then come back, then go further than I did the first time, etc. it really worked.

Re: separation anxiety

Peanut will typically follow me around which doesn't phase me...guess I got used to it.

As far as leaving the house...forget it. She is uncontrollable..barks and carrys on not to be believed.

I had a trainer come in. He suggested when I am preparing to leave give her a treat that will occupy her long enough to get me out the door. When I think of it I throw 3 beggin' strips at her and it works. Other than that she is psycho!

We've had this problem w/ Rudy ever since our daughter was born.
When I go out w/ Alex, Rudy barks and barks, like he's upset that I'm taking her & not him.Chat Icon
She's 17 months old now & he still does it.
I feel so bad!

This is great info.

Also, have you asked the vet about the doggie calming vapors? A friend of mine used it for her Shih Tzu and swore by it. It looks like a glade plug-in type of thing & emits a scent that only the dog can smell & it supposedly calms them.
