wow, my cousin got hers in 8 weeks..she sent it in at the beginning of April. I used an expediting service and got it 3 days.
I'm not telling him that. He sent his in March. He's getting so anxious.
oh, crap! Maybe he should follow up? There is a number to call..
Where is he going on his HM?
He's going to Mexico, so as long as he brings his proof that he submitted it (I guess the page off the website that says in processing?) he will be ok. He checked on it and they said that he needs to wait until 2 weeks before his trip to call again.
he can also travel with any gov't issued id...that was a new rule just put out there because with the influx of new apps for people traveling to the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico, the passport office is overwhelmed.

Re: Passport ?
One of the communications I received at work:
Translation: if you're trying to get a new passport, you'll probably be in for a lengthy wait. The only good news is not only that the government has realized it has a problem but has created a solution of sorts.
The USDSHS announced that U.S. citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda who have applied for but not yet received passports can nevertheless enter and depart from the United States by air with a government issued photo identification and DOS official proof of application for a passport through September 30, 2007.
Adults who have applied for but not yet received a passport should present government-issued photo identification and an official proof of application from the U.S. Department of State. Children under the age of 16 traveling with their parents or legal guardian will be permitted to travel with the child's proof of application. Travelers who have not applied for a passport should not expect to be accommodated. U.S. citizens with pending passport applications can obtain proof of application at: Status of Your Application
This accommodation does not affect entry requirements to other countries. Americans traveling to a country that requires passports must still present those documents.
With all of that, I would suggest waiting. If you really want to get it changed then do the expediting service
