Teachers who have been working in the NYC system a few years...

What do you use your teachers choice money on after you have been teaching a few years? I feel like i dont need to much.

I teach HS and I buy lots of videos. Those educational ones usually run $40-$50 each!

I also make sure to stock up on pens for the year, because I need to give out like 5 or 6 a day and this way I'm not losing my own pens or money. Construction paper and markers never go to waste either.

I buy new crayons, glue, paper of all types...the things that get used frequently.

New books for our library. I have a huge library. my kids are usually avid readers and I feel like they should always have a huge variety of books.

It goes faster than you think. It really does. And don't think you need to buy everything at once. Teachers Choice needs to be used by Feb/March. I know that there is ALWAYS something needed in January.

Plus, if the school copier is broken, it's great to have cash for Staples.

I bought a class set of the Scholastic Magazines and classroom library books. Also, something I learned quite early...you can NEVER EVER have too much looseleaf!!!

LAst year another teacher purchased a tv/dvd combo. She retired and left the TV for me to use (even though we have a dept TV). I buy educational DVDS, books, posters etc.
