Relocating
We are going to be relocating in a few months and even when the interview I thought went awesome, I got turned down. One actually said they went with a local candidate.
Did anyone else find this problem, when trying to find a job in another state?

Re: Relocating
YES
About a month or two before we moved to FL I started sending my resume to companies. No one called me. I had my NY info on my resume. Then when I used my friends address I still had my NY phone number and when I did get a call from a potential person they said "this is not a FL area code, do you plan on moving down" I responded yes and will be able to meet at your convenience. They would tell me ok well we'll call you, we just wanted to make sure you were coming down
Nothing. DH got us cell phones and I put my new FL number down on my resumes even though I was still in NY. I got a lot more phone calls b/c I had a FL address (my friends) and a FL phone number.
I put off interviewing when I officially moved down b/c I was flying back and forth to NY (we moved a few months before the wedding) so I waited till everything was done.
Once that was done I was looking for about a month and was getting quite a few calls.

Re: Relocating
It took my friend and her husband 1 year to find a job in CO while still leaving in NY. He got a job and they were able to set up the move. She was turned down all the time. She finally had a phone interview 3 weeks before she was moving to CO. She got the job after she moved there.

Re: Relocating
they save on relocation payments to you that way, plus can get the new employee started faster since there's no moving involved

Re: Relocating
it is generally much easier for an employer to hire someone who is local. there could be too many variables hiring someone who doesn't live there yet.
I know some people who have gotten jobs before they lived in the area, but it is pretty rare IMO.

Re: Relocating
my advice is that as soon as you get an apt here, update you resume and send a ton back out...I'm sure you will here something!

That's my plan...and I know They never called either. If it's still there I am going to resend when I get my address! But now that I am preggo they may not even consider me.

You never know, things are different here in the south...my principal at my old school told me, that she loves all her "grandbabies"...she has pics of all her employees babies in her office.

Yeah I was thinking about putting the apartment complex address, but then I thought what if something is mailed. I'd never get it. A few more weeks and we'll have an adress!
