Re: provisional certification?
In order to get the permanent you would have had to fulfill all the requirements (masters degree, teaching exams-LAST, ATS-W, CST, and the video) within 5 years or it expires. I think you can file for an extension before the expiration date on your provisional certification, but am not 100% sure how that works!
I too had my provisional in elementary education and have been teaching in special education ever since! I could not do the video in my school and could not find a school to do it in....so my provisional expired and I never got the permanet!

Re: provisional certification?
if it expires then you will fall under the new requirements for Professional certification which is a PITA with necessary prof. development hours
I sure hope you can get your permanent done in time- its so much better!

Re: provisional certification?
if it has not expired yet I would contact BOCES to find out about an extension. Child birth and care is one of the FEW reasons they will grant an extension. Provisional certs, once you have handed in your CQ expire 5 years from the date they were activated. CQs have even less time I believe. Try to stay under the old requirements if you can, then new ones IMO are not nice.

Re: provisional certification?
I would still call BOCES, I filed for an extension after mine expired and they gave it to me. Focus your reasoning on childbirth! I just got my permanent this Sept. Trust me, you do NOT want to deal with the new req's. GL
