If you've been to the new Melting Pot in Farmingdale...

how was your experience? I've been really wanting to go but Newsday gave them a very unfavorable review.

I could've written the Newsday review. It described my experience exactly as it happened. Overpriced, overhyped.

I agree with this - it was a fun experience but could have done without dinner

i agree with this! to do the whole meal takes over 3 hours and for me, it's a lot of food! (it's also a lot cheaper to skip the salad and "entree").

i had a good experience both times i went there, the service was good, the drinks are excellent, and the food is yummy. the only thing i had a problem with was that they try to squeeze you into the smallest possible table for your party which makes it hard to use the fondue pots - but if you complain (which we did), and they have room (which they did), they will move you.

Re: If you've been to the new Melting Pot in Farmingdale...

I went this past Thursday night with my girlfirends... There was 4 of us ( supposed to be 8) and we got a round table with 2 burners....

Since we are all pregnant and it was late we did not order to much-- We got 2 cheese fondues, we each got a salad, We got the vegetable entree and we cooked it in the broth and a chocolate fondue...

The fondue was the best part... I thought it would be expensive but it was $25 a piece for 4 of us...

I really don't have to go there again for a full meal but if I was to go to see a movie in Farmingdale and then have reservations for the chocolate fondue that would work...

The Newsday review was right on this one...

although I didn't love the fondues, they were pretty good. I hated the meal.

Overall, I thought it was overpriced for what you get.

Try it though- to each his own. Chat Icon

we're going to the one in NJ where we live this saturday night! we're going with 6 of us- 2 of us have birthdays in january, so we go pretty much every year to celebrate the birthdays. since we only go once a year, we love it! we usually go all out and get the full "big night out" with the entrees and all... so yummy! we just like it because its something different and it takes a long time, but its very relaxing to sit and talk and have a glass or wine or a yin yang martini.Chat Icon Chat Icon
we used to think it was REALLY overpriced until we tried to make it at home one time... it is SOOO much work to cut up all the bread and veggies and the cheeses they use are REALLY expensive ( gruierre was like $15 for like half a pound!) so we were like " oh! so THATS why it costs so much to go there!" LOL

Re: If you've been to the new Melting Pot in Farmingdale...

We went for DH birthday on 12/15. I was not impressed. My DH and I split the "Big Nite Out for 2" and my Mom and DS split the "Big Nite Out for 1". It consists of 4 courses: Cheese, Salad. Entree and Chocolate. The Cheese was good (but not enough), the salad was okay (again small), did not like the entree (you cook your own meat/fish in broth), and finally chocolate (kinda hard to screw that up). With drinks (4) and sodas (4), tax and tip the bill came out to over $300!!! Totally not worth it.
