Re: Making pasta sauce in a crockpot

I never make mine the same twice, but this is more or less what I do and then add stuff towards the end as needed.

2 cans crushed or diced toms
2 cans pureed toms
1 onion diced
1 package mushrooms, thinly sliced
garlic
5 bay leaves
2 Tbsp sugar
Red wine is desired
Toward the end I add tomato paste, depending on how thick I want it. 1-3 cans
Fresh basil leaves, thorn into pieces
I let it cook as long as possible 10-12 hours usually

If I want it arrabiata I'll add sliced hot banana peppers and crushed red pepper flakes before serving

Re: Making pasta sauce in a crockpot

I always do mine in the crockpot!

I cook the sausage first to make sure it's done.

2 large cans crushed tomatoes
2 small cans tomato sauce
2 small cans of tomato paste

a dash of sugar

sprinkle both basil and oregano (enough to cover the top) and stir in.

You can either brown garlic and put in or throw it in without browning it. Put sausage in and simmer away!

Re: Making pasta sauce in a crockpot

I'll simmer on low for the afternoon if we are home

I'll do high for 2-3 hours

I usually base it on how it smells and by looking through the cover at the edges
