Sending Text Messages While Out of Country
Anyone do this? Does it cost a fortune? Can you use your regular phone? I have Verizon.
ETA: I just looked on Verizon's website and International texts are 50 cents a piece.

It depends on your carrier. Most verizon phones are not tri or quad band phones so you usually can't do it. The other carriers like T-mobile and at&t worked when we were in Europe

While on our cruise, DH had to text for work and it cost a fortune. We have Cingular.

If you are travelling in Europe or the Far East you can only use a tri-band phone and then you have to get approval before you travel (or I did when I first used it with T-Mobile). A Blackberry works worldwide in most cases.

i send text messages back and forth from Ireland all the time. it's 50 cents per international text. i have ATT

I texted in Croatia & I think it was 50 cent a text & I forget how much incoming but it was great as there where alot of us there for my sisters wedding so we all able to keep in touch.
donegal419 - I added to my AT&T package for text. Its $9.99 a month for 100 texts. I am not sure if its worth it yet or not but I text my Mom, sisters and brother all the time.

this is great to know! THANX! we're always texing back and forth, just cause it's handy, particularly since we've had a lot of people in hospital, etc. lately, and it's just easier to catch them that way. thanks for the tip! :)
