name some odd things you can freeze...
I heard you can freeze milk, is that so? I never would have thought of that but it kinda skeeves me...
my MIL told me I could freeze cold cuts, so I tried that and I'm impressed, they actually taste the same when defrosted.
Can you freeze cheese?

I buy the huge bags of shredded cheese from costco and split them into freezer bags
We keep it in the freezer until we need it. It is perfect and it does not go bad

Great idea!!!
I stock up on butter, sticks especially for when I have to bake around the holidays!
I freeze bread, tortillas, wrap stuff, herbs before they go bad.

Re: name some odd things you can freeze...
yes, you can freeze milk...I do it all the time. Cheese bread/muffins/bagels/etc. leftover chicken or beef broth if I opened the can for a recipe but don't plan on using it. cooked beans--I cook beans off with no seasoning and divide them into 2 cups measurements for when I need them for chili and such instead of buying the can. Whole meals ala Super Suppers....I got the book and it tells you how far into the recipe you can freeze and how long and how cook
cooked chicken cutlets AND BBQ chicken
cooked meatloaf

Re: name some odd things you can freeze...
when on sale, fresh blueberries or strawberries - rinse well, dry really well and then freeze on a baking sheet then transfer to ziplock bags. Great for fall/winter time.
shredded cheese
bread / english muffins
homemade pancakes
Milk & Juice
tubs & sticks of butter
I make food then freeze it on a baking tray then put in ziplock bags or small tupperware containers (chicken cordon blu / borritos / eggplant parm stacks / etc)

I freeze butter all the time. I buy it when its on sale so when the holidays come and its time for me to bake, I dont have to pay the crazy prices on butter.

corn on the cob. MIL does this. Shuck the corn and put them in freezer bags and freeze. I just did this today since corn is 12 for $2 at Stop and Shop

Re: name some odd things you can freeze...
I make giant batches of chocolate chip cookie dough and make a dozen. I spoon the rest into ziplock containers and pop them in the freezer. That way when DH and I are in the mood for a cookie I put 6 on a small cookie sheet and bake them.
No need to eat them all before they get stale

Re: name some odd things you can freeze...
onions freeze really well, soo odd, but you have to put them in good ziplock, the taste will leak into other things if you don't--so if I need half an onion for a recipe, I'll freeze the other half...oh, and when you cut up frozen onions, your eyes don't water up!
also, peppers freeze well, but they are limp when they defrost, so they're great for cooking, I cut them into chucks, wash and dry them, and then freeze.

Re: name some odd things you can freeze...
I do onions all the time. I HATE chopping them, so I buy a 2 lb. bag at once, quarter the onions, toss them in the food processor, and scoop them out into 1/4 measurements in ziplock bags. Saves SO MUCH time when I'm cooking - all I have to do is grab a bag out of the freezer.
I do it with peppers, too (not the food processor part). 1/2 a pepper in a ziplock bag, and then if I'm making quesadillas or macaroni salad, I just defrost and toss 'em in.

leftover pizza. a co-worker just told me about this. She and her hubby buy a sicilian pie, eat what they can and then freeze the rest. She brings it to lunch for work and sticks it in the toaster oven.

Re: name some odd things you can freeze...
I know people will think I am nuts.. but I freeze wine. If I am making a recipe and don't intend to drink the rest of the bottle - i put in ice cube trays and cover it and freeze it. I use the cubes to cool down a wine cooler or to add to a recipe at a later date.
I also freeze my soup stock. I make a ton when I make it and freeze the rest until I need it.
