4th grade ela demo
AHHH, I finally have an interview! I have to do a demo next week for 4 summer school children who are in 4th grade. They'd like to see an ELA demo on drawing conclusions.
Any suggestions?
TIA

Re: 4th grade ela demo
i would draw conclusions about a characters feelings based on their thoughts, feelings, or actions.
i like to use the "it says, i say, so..." strategy.
so the LO: draw conclusions about a character's feelings by using the "it says, i say, so..." strategy.
i usually make a graphic organizer of three columns. one for each part of the strategy.
do you already have a story to use? i would try to use one of the listening passages from a past ELA. you could probably even find one that has the "pick which word best describes the character and give two examples" short response.

Re: 4th grade ela demo
thanks for your suggestion! I truly appreciate it. I don't have any 4th grade experience and I just moved back to NY from FL so their programs were a bit different down there. I am going for a k/1 position, but he wants to see me work with kids to see how I do.
I'll look for some fables perhaps to draw conclusions from.
Again, Thank you!

Re: 4th grade ela demo
drawing conclusions is a big mini lesson topic we do in Reader's Workshop over the year in 4th grade. What about getting a passage related to SS or a picture book related to 4th SS and draw conclusions based on what you read. (Using a graphic organizer w evidence in the text/conclusion you can make)
Doing characters' feelings tied into conclusions is good to as a pp mentioned. FM if you need any specific ideas...I am 4th.
