Anyone have their appendix out?

I took DH to the ER thursday night
needless to say, it was his appendix

they removed it; said it was perforated and he did have an infection and peritonitis

he came home yesterday after 24 hours of no fever

Im just wondering if anyone has had theirs out and what was your recovery like

DH is in complaining of pain A LOT
and he had the surgery done laporascopically (sp?)

i had it done in conjunction with an intestinal resection.

Any abdominal surgery is hard. In a few days he should be ok.

I had mine out. I was very close to rupturing, but luckily it didn't. It's essentially half of a C-section.... except when men get half of a C, they are pampered, everyone is overly concerned, you're told to walk, but not do anything strenuous, etc.

When a woman gets a full C, she has to lift weights, run a marathon, and be at 110% within a day or two....

I didn't milk my injury, but it did keep me out of karate for a few months. I tried going back before I should have, and I was wiped out. When you are healing, you don't have the ability to push your body the way you normally do.

im wondering how long he should be in pain and out of work

his abdomen is very swollen and puffy
he wants to walk around but it is very painful

what does the doctor say?

Some people take longer. I had my surgery and was in the hospital for 4 days with a full open incision.

Others there who had it done lap were there longer.

It just depends. If he's not running a fever he could just have fluid there that needs to be drained. I had a drain in until I left the hospital.

Also this kind of surgery makes you tired. I felt like an old lady for weeks.

I had mine out 2yrs ago with a lapy also....the first week was horrible because I was still so gassy and it was painful. I know it hurts to walk but it really helps get things moving. I was off for a month because of my job and all of the lifting I did. I used a heating pad and pain meds to manage my pain and it helped a lot. After the first week I still used the heating pad and switched to tylenol and that was enough for me. Hope that helps. FM me if I can help at all

i had it out 4 years ago, def had a lot of pain post surgery (also lapriscopically-sp?), it was summer time so i didn't go back to work for around a month, the first 2 weeks were def hard, so difficult to move and very painful.
I hope he feels better soon

I had it removed at 19, so I was young and may have recovered faster. Even so, I remember it really hurt to stand up straight, cough, sneeze, etc. for the first week or so. My mother made me walk around, but other than that, I was told to take it easy. At the time I was in college, and my doctor recommended I not go back to classes for two weeks.

So pamper DH, he probably really is hurting!
