questions for teachers who got married during school year...
this is only my second year teaching and i will be getting married during the school year (on a saturday). there are no holiday breaks around my wedding either.
my question is, how many personal days do you think are appropriate to ask to take for my wedding.
ideally, i would love to take thurs, friday, monday. but i am scared to ask for all those days and i am leaning towards just thurs, and friday.
what do you think i should do???? thanks

i think according to our contract (NYC) you are entitled to 3. ask your union rep!
eta: some people ive worked with took a week, but they had a doctors note. no one said anything.

I taught in a Catholic school, so there were no "rules" about that really so...
I got married on a Friday (during my 4th year at that school). We happened to have Wednesday off anyway, so I took Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday and we went on a mini-honeymoon in NYC. We went on our real honeymoon in July.

I work in a private school and got married on a Saturday. I get five personal days per year but I didn't want to use them all up at once. I worked a part day on Thursday and took off on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. We stayed at a bed and breakfast for two days to unwind after the wedding and took our honeymoon over the holiday break.

I worked in a Catholic school as well when I got married. The plan was to use February break for our honeymoon, but we set the date before the school calendar, and the break was a week later than we thought  .
Honestly, if I remember correctly, I took the Thursday and Friday before the wedding, and the entire next week without pay. But my principal was particularly understanding.

I took four days right before spring recess. It was my fourth year teaching, if that makes a difference.

This is a big issue in my school My school does not let u take more than three days for it. And they do not count after the wedding as a day. It depends school to school. Unfortunately I also think being untenured doesn't help. I teach on LI if that helps!

I got married during the school year and I took my 3 personal days that I am allowed per year when we got married. HTH

I took 5 days unpaid leave for my honeymoon ( wedding was day after thanksgiving)
No penalties or regrets!

I teach in a catholic school with an awesome principal. We got married right after Easter BReak. I used 3 personal days and 3 sicks days!

I am nyc and i took 3 personal days and 4 unpaid or a % cut something stupid. Right after those days feb. break started so i had another week off. It worked out GREAT!

We got married on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. I took off the Thurday and Friday before, we were off that Monday, and then took off the Tue and Weds after. This was during my tenure year, but my principal and APs were all invited to the wedding

I got married in may of '06 and I took thursday, friday and the whole next week. I was told i'd only get paid for 3 of the days and unpaid for the rest (but i got paid for all of the days and the days were just taken from my bank).

Thanks ladies, i feel better now about taking the days off! Im doing the 3 days!
But here is my new problem...I have to run it by my principal. I dont know how to bring it up. Should I email him or do it in person (im not sure if he even knows my name since im sorta new! so it would be akward i feel like)
