co-worker vent.....does this ever happen to you?
for anyone in cubicle land, you can relate.....WHY do people come to your desk to talk to you (ABOUT WORK) when you are at your desk eating your lunch!!!!!!!!!!! what's worse is this guy who was just here, he finally gets the idea I'm not paying attention to him b/c I'm eating, and then he changes the conversation to "so what's for lunch???".....I don't want to TALK about it!!!!! I want to EAT IT!!!!!!!

Heh. I generally don't take lunch - I always eat at my desk and I do it so people know I am still available for work related questions.
But - I have gone into the conference room to eat and people STILL come to find me in there while I am eating. It's pretty comical.

that's the best part, this is the guy who brags about bringing in lunch every day to save money (like we who buy from the cafeteria at work are a bunch of suckers or something).....and then he's asking what I bought?? what's the point, you're not going to buy this too, go eat your damn ham sandwich!!!!

wow now that takes balls!! almost everyone here eats at their desk, I usually don't mind answering questions if its something important, but this was just a really stupid question

I almost never eat at my desk. I get away and go to the cafeteria so I am physically away from my phone and computer. If anyone that I'm sitting with talks about work, I immediately scold them and tell them they can't talk about work during lunch.... 
If anyone stops by me while I'm at lunch, I tell them to either email me, or stop by after lunch.
I've found that if you are very consistent with the rules, eventually people start to realize.
Dealing with college educated white collar workers is very similar to dealing with my 2 and 5 year old DC....

SO TRUE! I hate lunch talkers!!!!!
Another thing, my coworker listens to my phone conversations and comments on them! I RARELY take personal calls at work and if I do I keep my voice down. When i hang up she will say "OH how nice you are going apple picking"
So now, when she does that I don't say a word, I don't smile or laugh - I just turn my back to her and continue working. She has stopped her comments a few times now so I think she is finally getting it!

How about the guy I work with who scans the day's calendar for in-house lunchtime meetings and conveniently turns up at those conference rooms to scavenge the leftovers. EVERY SINGLE DAY. He hasn't bought lunch in about 6 years; AAAAND he makes about $250K/year.
I call him the vulture!!

If the norm in your office is to take a 'lunch break' AT your desk, then I agree, that's rude.
In my office, if you're eating at your desk, you're working through lunch - so no one would think twice about approaching you to 'interrupt' your lunch -

When I was working (SAHM now) that was my biggest gripe. I cannot stand when people bother me when I eat and that includes DH!!!

when my boss comes over to me he actually says "everyone bothers me while I eat lunch, so I'll do it to you too" WOW so you're acknowledging this is rude but choose to do it anyway!!!

My office is open so there are no walls between the desks. When I want to cocentrate, I plug my headphones into my laptop and yet people will STILL tap me on the shoulder to talk to me. Same thing when I am in lab and doing experiments. I HATE it. I have to stop what I am doing and take my earphone out to listen to them babble about something extremely unimportant. I don't get it. Leave me alone!!!

my boss will come into the kitchen while we're all eating and obviously CLocked out for lunch and bother you about whatever he needs..

I don't mind really. I like to talk when I eat. I don't always talk about work. It is a nice break to have a REAL conversation. I teach ESL (lower levels usually), so my speaking throughout the day is very slow and limited.
I hate when people talk to me when I am working. I usually have a limited time to prepare my lessons and I need that time.

yes, i used to (when i worked in that type of office setting) get people who would come up to discuss work issues, ASK me to do things that are part of my normal job but OBVIOUSLY i'm on my lunch as i SHOVE a subway sandwich in my face.
i'll never forget being like "i'll take care of that AS soon as i'm done eating lunch" literally not even coherant b/c i had a ton of food in my mouth!!! i mean, HELLO!!!!!!!!

Or how about when you go to the cafe to relax, and some jerkface starts talking about work, and it turns into a "lunch meeting"!!!!!!!!
